Donald Trump on Abortion

The Wolves Are Out Over This Statement on Abortion by Donald Trump

Wednesday morning at a town hall meeting, Trump did what is becoming an unforgivable sin. He spoke out as a law keeper. Americans today think that there are times that we should ignore the law. Not just as individuals standing for our convictions, but society as a whole.

Trump said that those who had an abortion while it was illegal to do so should be punished. But what would you expect a reasonable person who thinks to say on such a topic? Should we ignore the law? Should we turn a blind eye? Apparently this is the sentiment of our nation.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich later told MSNBC “of course women shouldn’t be punished.”

An aide to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted: “Don’t overthink it: Trump doesn’t understand the pro-life position because he’s not pro-life.”

We will ignore the statement by Kasich; he is just barely more pro-life than Hillary Clinton. We know he would not have the woman punished. So what about the Cruz camp? It is likely that he stands in an any better position.

But, for their part, they have helped to move Trump on this issue. At least to the point of revising what he said.

Fox continued

“If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman,” Trump said in a written statement. “The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb.”

Not to be crass, but what is the mother a victim of exactly? Are we still talking about her procuring an illegal procedure that will murder her baby? We are not talking about forced abortions are we? No abortionist is going to begin to kick down doors and force women to have abortions, are they?

This is silly, and it is a stand that would have been good for Donald to take. Fox seems to think that this statement has hurt him with female voters. And it might have if any pro-choice women would have voted for him in the first place.

Who decides what laws our President ignores?
