VOCAL POINT: Opioids, Grannies, The Bible, and Sexual Harassment

Listen to VOCAL POINT Daily at MIDNIGHT, 6AM, NOON, 6PM, (Eastern Time) on GraceNetRadio.com

❖ Columnist and attorney Christine Flowers decries the abuse of the #MeToo movement. She describes it as “The Trojan Horse to Destroy Conservatism.” She also refers to “the assault on conservatism under the guise of protecting women from abuse.” The controversy of Judge Brett Kavanaugh vs. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is currently in the news. She notes, “When the target is a liberal, like Bill Clinton or Keith Ellison, women are not as interested in listening to the sister narratives.” Christine Flowers joins Jerry Newcombe to comment on the whole issue and the Ford vs Kavanaugh story.  @flowerlady61

❖ Opioids are killing many Americans today, and the problem appears to be getting worse. Dave Chase is the author of The Opioid Crisis Wake-up Call and the founder of Health Rosetta, a non-profit groups that strives for non-partisan fixes of our health care system. Referring to recent attempts in the Senate to fight the problem, Chase said recently, “We need to think bigger than this legislation if we want to get a real handle on the opioid crisis. We must ensure overuse sufferers receive the best evidence-based care for what is a lifelong chronic condition. Broader solutions that attack the underlying dysfunction of the healthcare system are vital. Only then can we turn off the spigot that is flooding our system with opioid prescriptions, overdoses and deaths. If we can’t fix healthcare, we can’t fix the opioid crisis.” Dave Chase joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the opioid crisis. www.healthrosetta.org

❖ The Bible continues to be the world’s best-seller. There is a fascinating story as to how it came to be and also as to how it came to be in English. Historian and award-winning author, Rod Gragg, has released his latest book, and it’s on the history of the Scriptures: The Word: The History of The Bible and How it Came to Us. Gragg notes, “Over the course of thousands of years (at least 3,500), sixty-six books compiled by scribes, priests, kings, poets, scholars, fishermen and others have survived through the ages. More than five-thousand partial or complete New Testament manuscripts exist today bearing the harmony of the Bible’s message.” Rod Gragg joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the history of the Bible. www.wndbooks.com

❖ How important are grandparents to society? Very, says Dr. Ken Canfield, a best-selling author and speaker. He has been described as: “a nationally-known leader and scholar, has committed his life to strengthening families and fathers. He has founded and continues to engage in several organizations dedicated to improving family well-being, most notably the National Center for Fathering, where he served as President for 16 years. He is currently president of the National Association for Grandparenting (GrandsMatter.org), which he founded in 2016.” Recently he wrote an article on Forbes on the importance of grandparents. Dr. Ken Canfield joins Jerry Newcombe (a grandfather himself, a.k.a., “Papa”) on Vocal Point. www.grandkidsmatter.org
