Unpopular Liberal Reputation Haunts NBC’s Olympic Coverage

The United States of America is in the midst of a serious conservative awakening in the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, and that does not bode well for the mainstream media.

Thanks to their indirect funding from giant advertising corporations, cable “news” networks such as CNN and MSNBC tend to lean hard to the left in their coverage of the day’s events.  If they didn’t, their corporate overlords would simply reach down from their throne on high and pluck a pretty penny from the pockets of these profiteers of punditry.  These same corporate overlords are the ones responsible for the rapid rise in globalism as well, as one government is much easier to corrupt than a whole bevy of bureaucracies.

Now, the liberal rhetoric rolling downhill to the media from these magnates of industry has multiplied dramatically with populist, popular, President Donald Trump in the White House.

This has been especially true at the NBC family of networks, with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow embarrassing herself mightily with a desperate tax return stunt in prime time.

This disdain for all things leftist media has now trickled down to NBC’s mainstream coverage of the Winter Olympics, whose ratings are abysmally poor.

“In an Olympics that is down almost 8% overall from the XXII Winter Games of 2014 and looking to be heading towards an overall low despite its multi-platform efforts, NBC may be feeling a bit like that coming off the first Friday of official competition of the 2018 Games.

“With a 13.0/23 in metered market results for NBC and NBC Sports Network’s primetime coverage, the net matched its low for the PyeongChang games. The combo of the Comcast-owned outlets slipped to the same rating in early numbers on February 15.

“Compared to the NBC-only primetime broadcast of the first Friday of official competition of the 2010 Winter Olympics out of Vancouver, last night’s NBC and NBCSN combined coverage dipped 3%. In a focus very telling of the changing media landscapes, a look at just NBC ’18 to NBC’ 10 reveals a drop of 16%.”

This mirrors a trend in the National Football League as well, where conservative fans turned away in droves after coaches and the commissioner refused to address the kneeling protests that took place during the National Anthem.
