The world of social technology has long been littered with a litany of leftist roadblocks to total freedom, and now Twitter is coming under fire for their Fascist culture in the workplace, as well as on the world wide web.
This week, the undercover team at Project Veritas released video of Twitter engineers admitting to algorithmic tomfoolery that would allow conservative users to continue interfacing with the platform, but have their posts’ exposure throttled for other users. The practice, known as shadow banning, is a cardinal sin of the internet, and has a reputation as being the most offensive insinuation that one could make regarding a website’s management.
What was even more disturbing in this week’s revelations, however, was the fact that this was all being engineered for the sole purpose of silencing conservative voices on one of the world’s most prominent soapboxes.
Twitter, for better or for worse, is unlike anything else on the world wide web. It’s ease of use, combined with its capability of scope, is bar none. Twitter has not only allowed President Trump to completely usurp the mainstream media to the point of irrelevance, it has allowed Americans to communicate with one another outside of the cultivated avenues of left wing outlets. With Twitter no longer able to be trusted to provide an impartial reach to each and every user, the platform loses a great deal of credibility.
Now, to make matters worse, employees from within the tech giant are now leaking damning stories of left wing oppression and bigotry from inside the workplace.
“In several exclusive interviews with Breitbart, former employees of the company reveal a company dependent on celebrities, hostile to free speech, and silently fuming at President Trump’s continued dominance on the platform. It corroborates the recent Project Veritas exposé of a platform that is hopelessly biased and committed to censoring non-progressive voices.
“Our first source, who, like the others, wishes to remain anonymous, described how the company rapidly abandoned its commitment to free speech after former CEO Dick Costolo was replaced by Jack Dorsey, who the source described as ‘the definition of a social justice warrior.’
“The majority of Twitter’s management, says the source, believes the leftist idea that ‘hate speech is violence.’ They ‘absolutely’ believe in the idea that ‘abuse scares people off the platform,’ and that certain types of speech ‘silence’ other speech.
“According to the source, Twitter’s Trust & Safety and Legal departments (distinct from the Trust & Safety Council, which is made up of left-wing advocacy organizations), are ‘more tolerant of free speech than you might think,’ but later adds that social justice warriors like Anita Sarkeesian still probably have direct access to Twitter’s upper management.”
Further tales of horror included the company’s segregation of employees into separate levels of liberalness and the “units of Milo” system for testing user response.
“’There was a great deal of celebration [at Twitter] when Milo was banned,’ says the source.
“When the source worked for Twitter, he says employees snarkily estimated the backlash over banning someone controversial in ‘units of Milo,’ which referred to an individual’s number of followers, their media reach, and their ability to respond to a ban with negative headlines and backlash from members of the public.
“’It’s like, “He’s two Milos, so we can’t ban him!” or “He’s half a Milo, so we can!”‘”
This preposterous system of measurement is not only offensive, but also reeking of childish pettiness.
