Trumps Exchanges The Carrot for The Stick in Healthcare Fight with Congress

Donald Trump set out to accomplish several lofty goals early in his presidency, not the least of which was fixing America’s healthcare problem.

Now, as Trump’s healthcare bill is heading into the legislature, many representatives in the house are openly defying the President’s wishes on the subject, some of them republicans.  Where President Trump was once complacent in allowing these opinions to linger, hoping to woo these wayward GOP stalwarts with positive reinforcement, their diligent and demonstrative defiance of Trump has led to a much less soft approach by the Commander in Chief.

Namely, Trump is threatening to support congressional primary opponents of those republicans seeking to stymy the necessary and much-anticipated move away from Obamacare.

“President Donald Trump is threatening to support primary candidates of any Republican congressman who doesn’t sign off on the GOP’s health care replacement plan.

“According to the Washington Examiner, Trump made the threat earlier this week during a meeting with House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and other GOP whips who are responsible for ensuring the GOP’s health care replacement plan receives the 218 votes it needs to pass in the House of Representatives.

“So far, most House conservatives have come out to oppose the reform bill, including the 29-member House Freedom Caucus, which is led by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.). Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the founding member of the caucus, has been outspoken in his opposition to the reform bill.

“Jordan told CNN Thursday that House conservatives ‘want to help the President do what we told the voters we were going to do. We told them we would repeal Obamacare.’”

Clearly, America is desperate for a change in the way our healthcare services are being provided to us, as Obamacare’s massive failures have wreaked havoc on the already decimated middle class.  While these republican legislators continue their awkward and inane stalling, there are millions of Americans who are overpaying for underwhelming medical services all across this nation.
