On the basis of their polling, the media is telling us that Donald Trump is unpopular. Not reliable!
According to his approval ratings, Donald Trump is unpopular as President-elect. Thus, NBC News reports,
Donald Trump starts his presidency Friday with the lowest-ever ratings for an incoming president, but also with some signs of increasing optimism for the country, according to results from a brand-new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
A majority of Americans — 52 percent — say they disapprove of the way President-elect Trump has handled his transition and preparations for the presidency, versus just 44 percent who approve, which is down six points from only a month ago.
To put Trump’s numbers into perspective, Barack Obama’s approval rating was 71 percent before he took the oath of office in January 2009, and Bill Clinton’s was 77 percent in December 1992.
Howard Kurtz has a reasonable explanation for why Trump is unpopular, if that is indeed the case.
As helpful as Kurtz is, I question the premise. Is Donald Trump really unpopular? All the evidence comes from media polls. Those were the polls that assured us that Trump would never win the election.
According to Zero Hedge,
In the month leading up to the election on November 8th, we repeatedly demonstrated how the mainstream media polls from the likes of ABC/Washington Post, CNN and Reuters repeatedly manipulated their poll samples to engineer their desired results, namely a large Hillary Clinton lead (see “New Podesta Email Exposes Playbook For Rigging Polls Through ‘Oversamples’” and “ABC/Wapo Effectively Admit To Poll Tampering As Hillary’s “Lead” Shrinks To 2-Points“). In fact, just 16 days prior to the election an ABC/Wapo poll showed a 12-point lead for Hillary, a result that obviously turned out to be embarrassingly wrong for the pollsters.
But, proving they still got it, ABC/Washington Post and CNN are out with a pair of polls on Trump’s favorability this morning that sport some of the most egregious “oversamples” we’ve seen. The ABC/Wapo poll showed an 8-point sampling margin for Democrats with only 23% of the results taken from Republicans.
There is no way that the media can be unaware that they are lying. They just suffered a huge humiliation when Donald Trump was elected and their candidate was defeated. If they had any wishful dreams that their polling reflected reality, those delusions were completely and painfully shattered on the night of November four. If they are continuing to practice such biased polling, it must be because they want to use the results as a tool to demoralize and intimidate Republicans.
Donald Trump was right when he tweeted:
The same people who did the phony election polls, and were so wrong, are now doing approval rating polls. They are rigged just like before.

To see a bit of the conventional wisdom, here’s Morning Joe.
Didn’t Joe Scarborough say this same stuff all during the campaign? (Trump is unpopular because he’s undisciplined. Trump is hurting himself. Trump causes himself problems.)
And yet Trump won.
There may be a moment where Trump crosses a line, but the media obviously doesn’t know where that line is!
