According to the Associated Press (AP), Donald Trump has surpassed the needed number of Republican delegates (1,237) to receive the GOP nomination for president. The delegate count was boosted by a small number of the Republican Party’s unbound delegates who told the AP that they would support Trump at the convention, including Oklahoma GOP chairwoman Pam Pollard. Pollard said:
“I think he has touched a part of our electorate that doesn’t like where our country is. I have no problem supporting Mr. Trump.”
Steve House, the Colorado GOP Chair and unbound delegate confirmed his support for Trump, saying he likes Trump’s business background. He said: “Leadership is leadership. If he can surround himself with the political talent, I think he will be fine.”
The number of delegates required to receive the nomination is 1,237 delegates; Trump has 1,238.
June 7 is the next key date with 303 delegates at stake in five state primaries.
