The nation has found itself in the grips of historical societal crisis the likes of which many of us have never seen before.
In the wake of the Weekend War of Charlottesville, there has been a renewed focus on the history of the American Civil War, the causes for secession, the aftermath of the war itself, and how best for Americans to commemorate the tragic events contained within. At the crossroads of these concerns lie the plethora of Civil War statues standing around the nation.
For those on the left, the issue is ignorance. Conjuring images of the Civil War should certainly evoke emotions in all Americans, seeing as the event was one of the most profound in the history of our great society. Where the liberals go off the rails is when it comes to honoring those who fought and died on those battlefields. Regardless of those brave men and women’s sacrifices, personal beliefs, or stories, the left would like the rest of the nation to consider them hateful bigots.
The reasoning for this is purely political, as the democrats have long relied on equating the south, ergo conservatives, with racism thanks to the geographical boundaries of the Confederacy and the practice of slavery. Of course, this is quite the stretch and the connection hasn’t passed a single test of academic scrutiny. Ever.
Now, in today’s “look at my activism!” millennial culture, the left needs a photogenic target; otherwise the left won’t have a well-cropped selfie to prove to their friends that they were part of something. Monuments to the Civil War dead just happen to fit the bill these days, and that has created a dangerous situation for these stone and bronze pieces of literal history.
As a number of radical left vigilante groups began dismantling and defacing these monuments, a furious campaign of education has been enacted to help stop the madness. Today, the President tweeted his support for the continued display of American history in our parks and public squares.
“President Donald Trump came out in defense of Confederate statues and monuments in a series of tweets Thursday.
“’Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments,’ Trump tweeted. ‘You can’t change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson – who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish!’
“He later added, ‘The beauty that is being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced!’”
Trump’s comment come as new polls indicate that Americans overwhelmingly believe that the monuments should stay in place.
The left’s “activism” would normally be easily dismissed as simple, self-righteous social media stunts if it weren’t for the liberal media’s continued push to promote their radical ideals. In the days following Charlottesville, Virginia’s heinous display, CNN and the rest of the fake news mainstream piled insult after insult onto our President and American conservatives as a whole, stoking the fires of dissonance in our great nation. These liberal lunatics are hoping to continue to divide and conquer the nation in the lead-up to the 2018 and 2020 elections using hate, fear, race, and their own brand of neo-fascism.
