The election of 2016 ushered in a brand new era of media collusion and bias the likes of which we have never before seen in our country.
From the “fake news” of the liberal left to the censorship and steering of social media, our great nation was bereft with social chicanery during the battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
In many ways, these new hurdles in our collective quest for truth were fitting, as the democrats’ digital doom was impending thanks to Wikileaks, John Podesta’s email account, and Clinton’s own willful defiance of decorum and her ignoring of the sanctity of public office.
Beyond the official channels, an entirely different narrative was being fed through the narrow channels of social media, with more than just the occasional shove of the rudder by the supposedly unbiased platforms on which facts, and opinions, were being shared. No single entity was more egregiously steering the national story more than Facebook, however, who had openly admitted to hiring a team of programmers to cull conservative news from their trending algorithms.
It is this unethical practice of falsifying the reality of social media that has drawn all manner of criticism from the digital world, with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg continuing to stand defiant in the face of this free speech farce over which he presides.
Now, even the President is getting in on the anti-Zuckerberg action.
“President Trump on Wednesday seemed to suggest that Facebook had colluded with the news media against him during the 2016 presidential race.
“‘Facebook was always anti-Trump.The Networks were always anti-Trump hence,Fake News @nytimes (apologized) & @WaPo were anti-Trump. Collusion?’ the president tweeted.
“He added: ‘But the people were Pro-Trump! Virtually no President has accomplished what we have accomplished in the first 9 months-and economy roaring.’
“The president’s comments come after the social media platform told investigators that it discovered that thousands of political ads published on its platform over the past two years were linked to fake accounts based in Russia.”
While many are still lamenting the possibility of “fake news” infiltrating the mainstream media, there is great ignorance over the selective trending that has taken place on social media, which is itself just as potent a lie.
Zuckerberg has been fueling speculation about possible political aspirations in recent months, meeting with a number of private and public sector bigwigs, disguised in his signature hooded sweatshirt – a calculated wardrobe piece meant to shield the young CEO from accusations of greed. It’s as though Mark Zuckerberg is playing the part of a millennial liberal while secretly pushing for neo-fascism via Facebook censorship akin to Nazi book burning.
