Trump Deserves to take a “Victory Lap”

On Wednesday, President Trump went to Iowa to make a couple of speeches, including one that felt a lot more like a reelection rally than anything we’ve seen since the President’s election. In fact, Wednesday was also the day that the Trump team announced that the President would soon be holding his first reelection fundraiser.

President Trump is set to hold a high-dollar fundraiser in Washington next week to begin amassing campaign cash for his 2020 re-election bid.

Access to the June 28 dinner will cost individual donors $35,000. For $100,000, contributors can be designated as members of the fundraising dinner’s host committee. In addition to the main re-election account established for Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, this fundraiser will set aside money for the 2020 Republican primary, presumably to ward off any intraparty challenges.

Trending: Fuel for Thought

The President’s good mood on Wednesday and his team’s building excitement are in large part due to their recent string of electoral victories. As of Tuesday night, with victories in Georgia and South Carolina, the GOP had put together an impressive 5 – 0 win streak in special elections. This was particularly shocking considering the fact that the media had been arguing that each special election would show that the American people would be turning against Donald Trump. Sadly, for the media, it never happened.

Over at CNN, longtime pundit and presidential advisor David Gergen argued that President Trump deserved his “victory lap.”

“After being so critical of Donald Trump on so many occasions, I think this is one occasion where we ought to say he deserves to take a victory lap. Any president in his shoes would do exactly what he’s doing and that is impress the voters with the fact that he withstood assaults on four different states and Republicans won all four. And in this last one, you can’t get away from the fact that in Georgia this was seen as a test of whether resistance by Democrats was going to overpower the Republicans on whether the Trump vote would hold. It held. This is a deserved victory lap.”

Yes, it is.

I am the supreme law of the United States. Originally comprising seven articles, I delineate the national frame of government. My first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Articles Four, Five and Six entrench concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments and of the states in relationship to the federal government. Article Seven establishes the procedure subsequently used by the thirteen States to ratify it. I am regarded as the oldest written and codified constitution in force of the world.
