The conservative world is currently trembling at the idea of a civil war between Donald Trump and Steve Bannon; two powerhouses of the right wing juggernaut.
It’s not like Bannon and Trump haven’t already butted heads, either. During the run up to the 2016 election, Bannon was rightfully a bit concerned about the possibility of a Donald Trump candidacy. This was an all-too common concern among lifelong republicans, given Trump’s bombastic lifestyle and his lack of political or military experience. Very few republican pundits gave Donald Trump any real chance of snatching the nomination away from the dozen-plus right wing stalwarts gunning for the gig.
Then, when that fateful day arrived, and the republican party was faced with Candidate Trump for the first time, a chasm opened wide on the right. Anti-Trump voices began pouring down from the rafters of the republican establishment, condemning the party for promoting what they felt was a circus sideshow candidate. Trump would never forget those names, either.
This is when Steve Bannon made a stand and began to buck the republican trends, coming out to support the President. At first, this support was merely through the media. Soon after, however, Bannon became an intrinsic part of the Trump team, riding that position of relative power all the way to the White House, for a brief stint as chief strategist.

Bannon soon met the same fate as a great many Trump advisors before him, as The Donald sent The Honey Badger packing. Bannon had seemingly left on good terms, however, promising to push Trump’s #War against the republican establishment from the relative comfort of his desk at Breitbart.
Now, after months of seemingly innocuous quiet, one of Steve Bannon’s recent tirades has incensed the President, who today lashed out at his former employee via his legal team.
“Lawyers on behalf of President Donald Trump sent a letter Wednesday night to former White House Chief Strategist Stephen Bannon demanding he refrain from making disparaging comments against the president and his family.
“The letter comes after excerpts from a forthcoming book by journalist Michael Wolff were made public Wednesday, causing a stir.
“Trump attorney Charles J. Harder of the firm Harder Mirell & Abrams LLP, said in a statement, ‘This law firm represents President Donald J. Trump and Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. On behalf of our clients, legal notice was issued today to Stephen K. Bannon, that his actions of communicating with author Michael Wolff regarding an upcoming book give rise to numerous legal claims including defamation by libel and slander, and breach of his written confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement with our clients. Legal action is imminent.'”
This move comes as the President is under increasing pressure to forcefully end the Robert Mueller-led investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election on the grounds that the Special Counsel has moved far beyond the bounds of the original and proper inquiry.
The statement made by Steve Bannon yesterday seemed to voice his belief in the investigation’s merit…something that republicans the nation over will need to begin reconciling.
