In the days following last week’s horrific mental illness-prompted attack in Parkland, Florida, and extremely disturbing reality came to light: There was no reason for this to have ever happened.
While some will say that violence such as this, spurred on by the delusions of a troubled young man with clear mental health issues, are impossible to predict, this particular incident has emphatically proven otherwise.
Not only was killer Nikolas Cruz the subject of nearly thirty individual inquiries by law enforcement, but the FBI was even tipped off to the possibility of Cruz’s violent explosion by a concerned citizen. The FBI has admitted to failing procedural norms in passing this information along to their Miami field office, allowing Cruz to commit his atrocity unmolested by federal authorities.
Some have questioned just how accurate or sincere the FBI’s original tip could have been, in order to receive such a lax response.
Now, after a transcript of the warning has been released, there is absolutely no doubt that the Federal Bureau of Incompetence deserves whatever punishment is coming their way.
“A person close to the teenager accused of killing 17 people at a Florida high school warned the FBI she was concerned he would ‘get into a school and just shoot the place up,’ according to a transcript of her call with a bureau tip line operator more than a month before the massacre.
“The transcript, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, provides chilling detail about the woman’s efforts on Jan. 5 to warn authorities about Nikolas Cruz’s propensity for violence and his troubled past. The caller’s identification was redacted from the transcript, but the tip-line operator called her ‘ma’am.’ (Read the transcript; redactions by FBI.)
“’You know, it’s just so much,’ she said on the call. ‘I know he’s—he’s going to explode.’ She said she was making the call because she wanted a ‘clear conscience if he takes off and, and just starts shooting places up.’
“The FBI last week acknowledged receiving such a call, which it said was from a person close to Mr. Cruz. But the transcript and the stark nature of the caller’s precise warnings about Mr. Cruz’s disturbing actions and volatile temperament, previously hasn’t been made public.”
This revelation comes on the heels of a great many FBI flubs in recent weeks, calling into question the efficacy of the entire agency.
Cruz, who had admitted to hearing “demon voices” instructing him during the massacre, had made a number of social media posts alluding to his wonton desire to kill people, even going so far as to post on YouTube under his real name that he hoped to one day become a “professional school shooter”.
