Tim Allen: Comedy is ‘Dangerous’ in Today’s PC Culture

Fan favorite comedian Tim Allen’s most recent TV show has gotten a reprieve after ABC cancelled it because it was too conservative. And now, after ABC fired Rosanne Barr, Allen is warning that comedy is “dangerous” in today’s PC culture.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly Allen slammed the political correctness that is destroying the field of comedy. PCism, he insisted, has badly shrunk the number of things that liberals will allow comedians to joke about. He also commented on ABC’s abrupt firing of Roseanne Barr.

“Whatever got in her head isn’t the Roseanne I know. It’s a very icy time,” said Allen. “I’ve been a comedian for 38 years and I’ve never seen it, like Lenny Bruce said at the Purple Onion, ‘we’ve gone backwards.’ There are things you can’t say. There are things you shouldn’t say. Who makes up these rules? And as a stand-up comic, it’s a dangerous position to be in because I like pushing buttons. It’s unfortunate.”

ABC terminated Barr from the smash-hit revival of Roseanne after she tweeted a racially charged remark, in which she compared former senior Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to an ape. In a recent video statement published to YouTube, Barr accused her former network of firing her over her support for President Donald Trump.

When asked if ABC was correct to fire Barr over the controversial remark, Allen replied, “They had to do what they had to do and it’s their decision,” adding he was left “heartbroken” after the network canceled his sitcom Last Man Standing. “I’ve worked for ABC for years … I don’t really believe it was a political decision. I think it was a financial decision…. I thought it was done very poorly, that’s my point of view. I was heartbroken,” he said.

In May, Fox TV picked up Last Man Standing for a sixth season. Allen went on to say how excited he is to get another season of his very popular sit-com that ABC so mysteriously cancelled.

“Now we get the news from Fox that it’s time to get back out on that diamond — hell yes, I’m excited!” the actor added. “When I heard the offer to create more episodes of Last Man Standing, I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out. It’s the fans! I could not be more grateful for the fans who wrote petitions and kept up the passion and incredible support for the show. And a fist pump, ouch, for [Fox Television Group CEOs] Dana Walden and Gary Newman at Fox for not only listening to the fans, but for making the bold move to bring Last Man Standing back. I’m sure audiences will be curious to see what we look like after all these years. Oh, has it only been one year? Well, just goes to show you — a lot can happen in a year.”

In any case, Allen is so right. Comedians are being shut down all over the place by unhinged liberals who won’t let them joke about what they want to joke about. Even let-wing comics are being attacked.

For instance, left-wing comedian Chris Rock was inundated with attacks this week when he tweeted out a link to an article discussing the “Insufferable Wokeness of Comedy.”

The article reported on Jerry Seinfeld’s refusal to allow PCism to force him to alter his comedic process or product and Rock tweeted out the article adding “Thank God for Jerry.” But liberals were furious and spent all day attacking Rock for his tweet.

These liberal attackers didn’t quite “get” that they totally proved both Jerry’s and Chris’ point!

Seinfeld has famously said he has stopped doing college appearances because the campuses are so violently PC that it is actually dangerous to do shows for college kids.

Seinfeld and Rock aren’t alone. One comic found his whole livelihood destroyed because he opposes allowing parents to turn their little children into transgender creatures. Stand-up comedian Owen Benjamin found himself on the receiving end of being Gulaged over his opinions.

Benjamin recently recorded a Prager University video to explain what he went through. It is worth a watch:
