Any way you slice it, Steve Bannon has been a controversial figure in the world of conservative politics for a good, long time.
As the editor in chief of firebrand right wing news source Breitbart, Steve Bannon has been a hardline conservative voice in America during some of the nation’s darker times, specifically while we were at the mercy of one Barack Hussein Obama.
Bannon has also been a frequent target of the left, given that his media empire has been steadily encroaching on the mainstream media and their perceived stranglehold on American political theater. Breitbart has grown swiftly and strongly, and is a legitimate threat to the fake news media who can’t seem to right their own ship in the Trump era. The mainstream pundits know this, and, given the already inevitable doom that they face, have taken to completely lambasting the site and harpooning Bannon every chance that they get.
Then came the promotion heard round the world, as President Donald Trump appointed Steve Bannon to a leading role in his White House staff.
This sent the leftist media into a furious frenzy. Now, with the most powerful man in the free press standing shoulder to shoulder with the most powerful man on the planet, how on earth would the not-quite-journalists at CNN and MSNBC even survive?
Quickly, the left turned to the already debunked Russian electoral conspiracy to give their bleeding heart viewers hope that Trump could be stopped. They pushed and they prodded, and they utilized dirty and unverified “dossier” reports to attempt a war of perception against the President. This too failed, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Bannon and those in the conservative free press who refused to allow these salacious lies to stand.
Bannon didn’t last long in the White House, but this wasn’t an unusual development: President Trump’s commitment to innovation led to a great many of his high level confidants spending only a few weeks at a rip within the confines of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In the press, it looked as though Bannon and Trump had a mutual separation, with Bannon publicly stating that he believed he could do more for the President’s conservative revolution from the outside.
Bannon even went so far as to say that he was going to #War against the conservative Deep State once he returned to Breitbart – something that fell directly in line with the President’s “Drain The Swamp” Ethos.
Now, however, something strange has happened, and the two peas in a pod are hissing and spitting back and forth, seemingly out of nowhere.
It began with Bannon attempting to deride Trump in his latest book:
“Earlier on Wednesday, New York Magazine published excerpts of a forthcoming book by author Michael Wolff in which Bannon criticizes Trump’s campaign as well as the president and his family. The Guardian published excerpts of the book in which Bannon predicts that Special Counsel Robert Mueller will ‘crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV’ over the president’s son’s meeting with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in June 2016.”“Bannon also called Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with the lawyer, in which he expected to receive damaging information on Trump’s election opponent Hillary Clinton, ‘treasonous’ and ‘unpatriotic,’ according to the Guardian.”
“‘When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,’ Trump said of Bannon in a statement the White House issued. ‘Now that he is on his own, Steve is learning that winning isn’t as easy as I make it look.’“The statement represented an emphatic break from the person considered the architect of Trump’s presidential campaign. Bannon continued to enjoy access to the president after he left the White House, but that has ended, one person familiar with the matter said.”
This odd tiff seems to have just begun between the two conservative juggernauts.
We will be sure to keep the world updated with blow by blow analysis of what could prove to be a seminal moment in America’s conservative awakening.
