It is well understood that the liberal left who inhabit our nation’s technological corridor known as Silicon Valley are not fans of the current administration, but is it due to their intelligence, or something else?
As we have always seen with society, with age comes conservatism, and that makes perfect sense. As a young person, and often through the first decade of adulthood, you have the safety net of your family to keep you from becoming homeless or destitute. As a child, you are virtually living in a socialist world where your parents spread their wealth around the home to buy you brightly colored plastic pieces that simply arouse your imagination.
Then you get that first student loan bill and you start thinking a little less about who is going to help me, and more about how I’m going to help myself. This almost always lends itself to the conservative mindset, especially fiscally, and the risk-versus-reward ratio begins to get tipped in the direction of responsibility.
So, in Silicon Valley, where our nation’s next Free Speech fight is certain to take place, the millennials who are in charge tend to still be in their liberal ideology phase. Unfortunately, thanks to their immediate wealth, many will never know what that first car payment feels like when you’re in the middle or lower middle class. And it will be these inexperienced billionaires who dictate our First Amendment rights on the internet.
As we’ve already seen, this is not going so well for liberty in America.
William Jacobson, founder of the conservative blog Legal Insurrection, writes that Amazon has terminated his website’s “Amazon Associates” account, which the site used to earn revenue via affiliate links.
Jacobson says that the company cites a TOS violation that Legal Insurrection had “remedied” in January — which Amazon acknowledged at the time and expressed thanks.
From Legal Insurrection:
For as long as I can remember, Legal Insurrection has participated in Amazon Associates, a way for websites to earn fees when readers shop at Amazon.com via links from our website.
It was an important source of revenue to us, and paid for some of the operating expenses readers never see.
On Saturday morning, April 28, 2018, I woke up to an email in my inbox from Amazon Associates telling me our participation in the program was terminated, our account closed, that the decision was final and there was no appeal. On top of that, Amazon was holding back any accumulated money it owed us.
The left is fighting Americans on the First and Second Amendments in 2018, believing that they will win one fight or the other.
We’ve got other news for them.
