Sexual Harassment – in Context

This article is not to make an excuse for sexual harassment, but rather to explain why it happens and how to prevent it.

There is a tribe in Africa where the women only wear makeup when they want to signal that they are looking for a man. Now if that is a natural signal, what does it say about the fact that in our culture, most women wear makeup all the time? And what response does that reality trigger in men?

The function of the beauty of a flower is to attract a bee to pollenate it. Is the enhanced beauty of a woman with makeup and revealing clothes giving off the message that she is trying to attract a man? The effect is yes. Women often say that that isn’t their intention, and that they are only competing with other women or fulfilling a societal norm. But the effect on men is still that it attracts them and creates a desire in them for the woman.

Many, especially women, are probably going to reject what I’m saying here because of what has been happening in the culture we live in for many years. But men, if they are going to be honest with themselves, know what I’m talking about.

Then add to this the looseness about sex that is portrayed in the movies and on TV. There are many settings there where kissing and even sex takes place outside of marriage. Yet the only setting that sex should be taking place is within the security of marriage because of the possibility of a pregnancy. But the society thinks that it has those things covered with the unnatural responses of pills, condoms, alcohol, drugs, pornography and abortion. But it is better to be natural and marry and enjoy marriage life and a family.

This wasn’t complicated when I grew up in the ‘50s. And my mother said it was even better in the ‘40s. When I was growing up, women for the most part (especially in the culture) were respected, cherished and adored. It’s ironic that women’s “lib” actually didn’t liberate them; it disrespected their true nature and enslaved them by only seeing them as sex objects.

So the culture has a choice to make – stay hyper-sexualized and frustrate men and watch many of them falter … or return to being natural and women being modest. It appears we might be at a turning point now with all of the sexual harassment allegations coming to the news. Hopefully we will make a complete turn, given what I’ve said here.
