Senator Ted Cruz Proves the Democrats are Hypocrites on Judge Gorsuch

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has become Judge Neil Gorsuch’s chief champion in the Senate Judiciary committee, and the Judge is lucky to have the support. Today, during the first day of hearings over whether or not to confirm Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, Cruz called out his Democrat colleagues for their hypocrisy.

Cruz wondered why, if Judge Gorsuch was so objectionable, the Democrat Party had chosen to remain silent about his confirmation to the federal bench ten short years ago?

“A decade ago, Judge Gorsuch was confirmed by this committee for the federal court of appeals by a voice vote. He was likewise confirmed by the entire United States Senate by a voice vote without a single Democrat speaking a word of opposition. Not a word of opposition from Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, not from Harry Reid or Ted Kennedy or John Kerry. Not from Senators Feinstein, Leahy, or Durbin who still sit on this committee. Not even from Senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden. Not a one of them spoke a word against Judge Gorsuch’s nomination a decade ago. And the question this hearing poses to our Democratic colleagues is ‘what has changed?’ What has changed? Ten years ago Judge Gorsuch was so unobjectionable he didn’t merit even a whisper of disapproval. In the decade since he’s had an objectively exemplary record. By any measure he has shown himself to be even more worthy of the bipartisan support he received back then.”

I am the supreme law of the United States. Originally comprising seven articles, I delineate the national frame of government. My first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Articles Four, Five and Six entrench concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments and of the states in relationship to the federal government. Article Seven establishes the procedure subsequently used by the thirteen States to ratify it. I am regarded as the oldest written and codified constitution in force of the world.
