Russia’s Response to Trump’s Syria Strike Does Not Bode Well For Peace

It has been merely hours since American forces began a bombardment of military sites within Syria, whose President, Bashar al-Assad, is accused of using chemical weapons on the people of the nation.

This action, which mimics a similarly heinous incident months ago, has compelled U.S. President Donald Trump to action, ignoring a nasty previous threat from the Russian government over such actions.  Russia has previously indicated that any strike on Syria would be considered a “war crime”, and prompt a response from the Kremlin’s forces which are already stationed in Syria.

Now, after the military action, we are getting our first taste of the Russian response.  For those of us hoping to avoid World War III, the prognosis remains grim.

A highly placed Russian politician is likening President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler after the launch of airstrikes against Syria, and says he regards the action as a move against Russia.

Alexander Sherin, deputy head of the State Duma’s defense committee, says Trump “can be called Adolf Hitler No. 2 of our time — because, you see, he even chose the time that Hitler attacked the Soviet Union.”

That’s according to state news agency RIA-Novosti. The Nazi forces’ opening attack against the USSR in 1941 was launched around 4 a.m.

So that was just one reaction, and a truly terrifying one.  How about something a little less ominous?

Russia’s ambassador to the United States said the bombings were an insult Russia’s president and not “acceptable”.

Anatoly Antonov said on Twitter: “A pre-designed scenario is being implemented.

“Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences.”

He added: “Insulting the President of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissable. The US – the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons – has no moral right to blame other countries.”

Well that wasn’t a whole heck of a lot better, was it?  There has to be someone who has something positive to say in the face of all of this…

Nope, just more doom and gloom from the mainstream media as well.  At least they were fairly cynical about the whole thing over on Twitter.
