Russia Accuses United States of “Complicating” Syrian Reconstruction While Fighting Terrorists


More and more each day, it seems that the United States and Russia are on the path for a second Cold War, with much of their bickering stemming from the conflicts in Syria.

Both superpowers are currently engaged in fighting the radical Islamic terrorism groups that have besieged the middle eastern nation.  During the clashes between these forces and our own, Russia has been less than enthused regarding some of the U.S. action on the ground, including accusations that range from U.S. troops not pulling their weight, to the American military’s purported sabotaging of critical infrastructure for the sole purpose of hampering reconstruction efforts.

“Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoi of the Russian military’s General Staff argued on Tuesday that the military contingent was trying to ‘completely destroy critical infrastructure in Syria and complicate post-war reconstruction as much as possible.’

“He added that US-led military aircraft had destroyed four bridges over the Euphrates River in Syria and hit the Tabqa Dam that lies 40 kilometers west of Daesh’s main stronghold of Raqqah.

“Rudskoi further warned that the collapse of the dam, most commonly known as the Euphrates Dam, would create an ‘ecological catastrophe’ and lead to ‘numerous’ civilian deaths.

“The remarks came as a spokeswoman for the US-backed fighters from Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – a Kurdish-dominated and anti-Damascus alliance – said on Monday that the Tabqa Dam is not damaged or malfunctioning and engineers fully inspected its operations.”

Combined with some of the more salacious accusations being hurled in Russia’s direction from the American political left, tensions between the two nations are quickly approaching the same ferocity as during the Cold War.  Given the massive instability that the world is facing these days, a fight between these two superpowers could have devastating effects for decades to come.
