Back in 2011, President Barack Obama turned the White House Correspondence Dinner into a no-holds-barred Donald Trump roast. He used Trump as a punching bag and did not relent his entire speech.
Obama began by jabbing Trump’s birther stance. You know, the one started by Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign.
He continued with strikes to The Apprentice and belittling Trump’s executive experience. He made it seem like child’s play compared to being president. This is hilarious coming from a man who never ran a business, let alone had a real job, before becoming president.
It is widely known that Trump has never been able to laugh at himself. Obama grabbed that Achilles heal and did not stop until Trump was completely humiliated.
PBS Frontline interviewed several Trump supporters regarding that night for an upcoming special. The interviewees painted Trump as a man who does not take such abuse lightly. Many Trump voters will be excited to hear of the efforts Trump has made in fighting back. They have been waiting for a candidate to push back on the Democrats.
Nonetheless, the statement made by Omarosa Manigault should make everyone step back and take pause:
“Every critic, every detractor will have to bow down to President Trump. It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, whoever disagreed, whoever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”
This is a huge red flag to the country no matter who you support.
Here is the entire clip for context. Manigault’s quote begins at the 4:48 mark.
I pray this sentiment is just Manigault’s perspective and not Trump’s true agenda. However, she does confirm a concern that many people have. It explains why #NeverTrumpers are #NeverTrumpers.
Manigault has described at best a king, at worse a dictator. She definitely did not described a president bound to the Constitution.
If elected, Trump will be the President of all of the United States. That includes those who voted for Hillary, those who didn’t vote at all, and those who actively criticized his campaign. He must know that the man Manigault illustrated is the same kind of corrupt politician his supporters abhor. Obama and Hillary used the IRS to target their political opponents and silence voices. Manigault’s characterization of Trump is just as bad, if not worse, than these two.
If Trump chooses that path, he will prove all his critics 100% correct. As a result, he will experience the most devastating and humiliating downfall of all.
Only time will tell.
But that’s just my 2 cents.
Frontline: The Choice 2016 will air on PBS September 27, 9:00 ET.
