Donald Trump’s resounding 2016 electoral victory was a referendum on the idea of law and order in America, but not everyone got the memo.
Predictably, the democrats are the ones who’ve arrived late to the conclusion that Donald Trump is the President that was chosen by We The People. His campaign promises catapulted the populist candidate past doomed democrat Hillary Clinton in the general election, as Americans clamored for tighter immigration control amid heightened concerns over Mexican drug cartel violence and undocumented workers invading our nation. Trump told us he’d put an end to it, and the left lost their minds.
For the democrats, the easy retort was to attempt labeling the President as some sort of racist, as opposed to admitting that the adherence to the laws of the land would be the best thing for America.
Trump’s plan to encourage legal immigration only works if the illegal immigration is curbed – something that the democrats are refusing to accept. Instead of allowing ICE agents to do their jobs in tracking down the criminal elements of the immigration world, cities such as Oakland, California are designating themselves as so-called “sanctuary cities”. In these liberal locales, local law enforcement will either refuse to cooperate with federal agents, or outright attempt to obstruct their efforts.
This has led to the Department of Justice issuing a stern warning to the leaders of these communities: We are not afraid to arrest you for interfering with federal authorities.
The Mayor of Oakland would like to see the government try.
“Just hours after the Oakland City Council voted unanimously to end any cooperation with agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Mayor Libby Schaaf said Wednesday she would go to jail if needed in her opposition to ICE raids.
“Schaaf’s remarks came on a day when rumors were swirling that ICE planned to launch a series of Bay Area raids — arresting as many as 1,500 illegal aliens — because California has become a Sanctuary State and several communities have adopted Sanctuary City policies.
“’We are exercising our legal right to be a Sanctuary City and to protect our residents,’ Schaaf told KPIX 5 of her opposition to ICE raids. ‘The fact that the federal government is suggesting that it is actively retaliating against jurisdictions that are exercising their right to have sanctuary policies — that is what is illegal.’“When asked if she were willing to go to jail to defend those policies, Schaaf answered emphatically ‘Yes!’”
