What drives people to invest ordinary politics with such vitriol that they fantasize about murdering people on the other side?

In 2013 Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) tried to defund Obamacare and earned the ire of his colleagues. Looking back… he was 100% correct.

“The Obama strategy, I believe, is that on January 1, subsidies kick in, and his strategy is very simple: He knows that in modern times no major entitlement has ever gone into effect and been unwound. Never been done. His strategy is to get as many Americans as possible hooked on the subsidies, addicted to the sugar. I think if we’re going to stop Obamacare, we have to do it now. I am the supreme law of the United States. Originally comprising seven articles, I delineate the national frame of government. My first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Articles Four, Five and Six entrench concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments and of the states in relationship to the federal government. Article Seven establishes the procedure subsequently used by the thirteen States to ratify it. I am regarded as the oldest written and codified constitution in force of the world.
