Mohamed Mohamed, Clock Boy’s father, tried to use the courts to silence Islamic criticism.
He filed a $15 million dollar lawsuit against Irving, Texas, as well as defamation lawsuits against Center for Security Policy’s Jim Hanson, Glenn Beck, TheBlaze, FoxNews, and Mayor Beth Van Duyne. Fortunately, the Texas judge was not hearing any of it and tossed the defamatory cases out of court.
Ahmed Mohamed, now known as “Clock Boy”, made news in 2015 when he showed up at school with what he claimed was a “homemade” clock. Others, including teachers, felt otherwise.
Incased in a briefcase like container, he showed his “clock” to at least two teachers. One specifically told him to put it in his locker. Mohamed continued to carry it around anyway. After hearing a ticking sound, police were called for a possible bomb threat.
After the police arrived, Mohamed was arrested and placed in handcuffs. He was released shortly after. The school suspended him for three days for a “hoax bomb”. Almost immediately a press conference occurred with Mohamed, including his family and the Counsel on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) by his side. Mohamed told the media he was punished because of a clock he invented.
Irving has been an area of Islamic tensions for years. Local Muslim mosques tried to set up an Islamic tribunal, overriding American laws. Mayor Duyne pushed back against the Islamic takeover and has been a target of the community ever since.
Liberals ran to Mohamed’s side, as usually without all the facts, showering him with love and support. The bleeding hearts offered him internships, visits to NASA, requests to appear on shows and even an invitation to the White House.
Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great.

All because he was Muslim. However, not everyone was buying that Mohamed “invented” or even made the clock.
Electronics expert Thomas Talbot explained, “What this is is a commercial alarm clock, as you would purchase in any department store and use at your bedside. All he did was remove the plastic case from the alarm clock. This is not an invention. This is not something that someone built or even assembled.”
In a video lasting less than 4 minutes, Talbot presents all the scientific evidence as to why it was not even a homemade clock. All of it was a hoax and the liberals fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
But that didn’t stop Mohamed Mohamed from filing frivolous lawsuits against those who saw through the charade.
American Freedom Law Center represented the defamation defendants in court earlier this month. According to the AFLC, Mohamed’s attorney was not fully prepared.
During the lengthy hearing, Judge [Maricela] Moore pressed Mohamed’s lawyer, Fort Worth attorney Susan Hutchison, to provide any facts that would suggest that Hanson and the other defendants had said anything false or defamatory about Mohamed or his son during the television broadcasts. After spending a painfully embarrassing 15 minutes flipping through reams of paper, Mohamed’s lawyer was unable to provide any such evidence.
As a result, the AFLC asked for a dismissal.
AFLC co-founder and senior counsel David Yerushalmi explained to Judge Moore that the purpose of the lawfare-driven lawsuit was to intimidate into silence those who might comment publicly on the connection between jihad, terrorism, sharia, and Islam. As such, Yerushalmi argued, “this case is a classic Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation or ‘SLAPP’ case and should be dismissed.”
Judge Moore agreed, dismissing the lawsuits later that day.
After the court proceedings, Yerushaimi extended his argument against Islamic efforts to silence critics:
“This lawsuit filed by Clock Boy’s father is yet another example of Islamist lawfare, which is a component of the Muslim Brotherhood’s civilization jihad,” he said, adding, “The Islamists employ the progressive mainstream media to label any public criticism of a sharia-centric, jihad-driven Islam as ‘Islamophobic,’ and they add fear and financial ruin to the equation by utilizing the legal system to file SLAPP actions.”
At least there are still a few judges out there who take their job seriously and honor the 1st Amendment. Freedom of Speech won a huge victory with this case. Fortunately, the blatant attempt of CAIR and this family to stifle free speech and honest journalism exploded in their face.
But that’s just my 2 cents.
