If you walk into any feed and seed shop in middle America and take a poll, you’re likely to find a common enemy among all American agriculturalists.
That common enemy is none other than mega-corporation Monsanto, who have been cruelly squeezing the American working farmer for every penny they possibly can. Through their incredibly conniving practice of auditing seed storage, to their self-destructing and pesticide-injected plants, Monsanto has revolutionized modern agriculture solely in their own image, and for the purpose of amassing incredible wealth from the working class of this country.
Worse yet, one of Monsanto’s most popular products, RoundUp, contains a thoroughly potent carcinogen called glyphosate that the company has been attempting to hide the effects of for years. Now that California has slapped warning labels on the popular weedkiller and other glyphosate products, Monsanto is now suing the state for helping the public acknowledge the dangers that the company his likely known about for ages.
“California has added glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup, to a list of cancer-causing chemicals. The state acted after the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) recently ruled glyphosate a carcinogen. IARC said that along with other Monsanto chemicals Roundup could cause Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, and cancer.
“In the lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in California, Monsanto and groups representing corn, soy, and wheat farmers rejected that glyphosate causes cancer. They said the state’s requirement for warnings would force sellers of products containing the chemical to spread false information.
“’Such warnings would equate to compelled false speech, directly violate the First Amendment, and generate unwarranted public concern and confusion,’ Monsanto’s Vice President of global strategy Scott Partridge said in a statement.
“According to the lawsuit, Monsanto has already suffered damage to its investment of hundreds of millions of dollars in glyphosate products since California added the chemical to its blacklist of products causing cancer.”
This corporate behemoth of the agriculture industry is an extremely powerful political player as well, having greased the palms of many high ranking Washington establishment lapdogs over the course of their decades’ worth of farming dominance.
Much like the Big Oil and Big Pharmaceutical industries, this Big Agriculture monster is concerned about profits first and foremost, and the safety of the American people second. Their litigious lunacy may only be the beginning for Monsanto.
