Merkel Pushes for More Censorship in an Effort to Protect Globalism

In making comments about alleged “fake news” and “hate speech,” Angela Merkel prepares for the establishment takeover of the internet.

As Angela Merkel prepares to run for a fourth term in Germany, she proposes more censorship and government manipulation of social media. Of course, Facebook has no problem censoring for a liberal social agenda, but they don’t like getting caught doing it. With the governments providing cover for them, Facebook and other social media sites will probably get bolder.

According to Reuters,

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday threw her support behind efforts to fight the use of hate speech posted on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Google’s YouTube.

Trending: Science is Settled

Under a program that runs until March, German authorities are monitoring how many racist posts reported by users of social media sites are deleted within 24 hours. Justice Minister Heiko Maas has pledged to take legislative measures if the results are still unsatisfactory by then.

How confident are you that the program is careful to distinguish between advocacy of a sane and secure immigration policy and real racism? I’m not confident at all.

Hand in hand with “cracking down” on hate speech, she also talked about “fake news.” AFP reports,

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned Wednesday against the power of fake news on social media to spur the rise of populists, after launching her campaign for a fourth term.

Speaking in parliament for the first time since her announcement Sunday that she would seek re-election next year, Merkel cautioned that public opinion was being “manipulated” on the internet.

“Something has changed — as globalisation has marched on, (political) debate is taking place in a completely new media environment. Opinions aren’t formed the way they were 25 years ago,” she said.

“Today we have fake sites, bots, trolls — things that regenerate themselves, reinforcing opinions with certain algorithms and we have to learn to deal with them.”

Merkel, 62, said the challenge for democrats was to “reach and inspire people — we must confront this phenomenon and if necessary, regulate it.”

It seems to me that fake news is a weapon of the mainstream press.

How about polls that claimed with confidence that Brexit would be voted down in the referendum? Or polls claiming Hillary Clinton had about a ninety percent chance of winning?

Both “hate crimes” and “fake news” are issues created for the sake of legitimizing government control of speech. Angela Merkel wants the government to determine what counts as allowable speech and what counts as real news.

Of course, social media companies are more than happy to cooperate. Facebook just came up with a way to censor posts so that the Chinese communist government would let the social media company in that country!

It is pathetic that Mark Zuckerberg would be so willing to work with a communist government to give it tools to control the media. But it is also pathetic that a government in the so-called “free world” seems to want the same kind of control over the media.
