Mark Dumas (in his mid-60s) is the only man in the world that swims safely, and for fun, with a polar bear, the world’s largest land predator.
From Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, Dumas regularly jumps in the pool with his now 20-year-old and 800 pound female polar bear, Agee. He play wrestles with her on the grass, kisses her, puts his head in her jaws, wraps her arms around him, and bears hugs her when she stands on her feet. Standing on her hind legs she reaches over 7 feet tall.
Initially Dumas and his wife trained her to star in television advertisements, after her first performance in the 1995 movie, Alaska, when she was only a few weeks old. The Dumas’s have owned Agee since she was six weeks old. They bottle fed her, and kept her inside their home when she was a cub. She played with their dogs and moved outside when she got too big for their home.
