Until the disgusting crimes of Harvey Weinstein broke big in October, the leftist media establishment flatly refused to report on the sexual crimes of liberals even as they were seen reporting on even the most loosely sourced accusations made against Republicans. It has been a double standard stretching back forty years, and we probably shouldn’t expect this sudden change to last long.
Over the last few weeks, we have seen a plethora of stories hitting liberals in Hollywood and Washington. The floodgates opened after NBC reporter Ronan Farrow was finally able to get his story published revealing the decades of sexual abuse indulged by Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
After the Weinstein story, another expose of highly placed actor Kevin Spacey broke across the media. Then a long list of others in the entertainment industry were outed as abusers, including DC Comics editor Eddie Berganza and NPR chief Michael Oreskes and many others.
This week the exposes continued as Minnesota Al Franken was revealed as a repeat abuser with several accusers and several incidents brought to the forefront, reports that were so bad that his colleagues in the Senate called for an ethics investigation into his actions.
Sen. @alfranken, the Minnesota Democrat is the latest prominent American to be accused of sexual assault. It dates back more than a decade to when Franken was a comedian, and there is photographic evidence. @juliannagoldman reporting. pic.twitter.com/2WV3OYXBS5

Much of this was also happening concurrently with accusations by a list of women that Alabama’s Republican candidate for Senate, Judge Roy Moore, had abused them forty years ago. This despite the extremely shaky nature of many of their stories not to mention testimonials of women who say that Moore could never do what the accusers say he did.
Still, with all this going on, there has been a major omission of reporting by the liberal press. As the press has knocked itself out covering the Moore accusations, it has completely ignored the abuses wrought by Democrat Senator Bob Menendez.
As Michelle Malkin noted:
For the past 11 weeks, Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., has been on trial for 18 counts of bribery, fraud, and corruption involving nearly $1 million in gifts and donations. The jury remained deadlocked as of Tuesday.
And what sort of coverage has the case gotten?
A new Media Research Center analysis reported that ABC, CBS, and NBC devoted 40 times more of their morning and evening TV newscast coverage this past week to Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore’s alleged sexual assault accusers than to the ongoing federal trial of one of the Democrats’ most powerful, visible, and entrenched figures on Capitol Hill.
Nothing but hypocrisy writ large on that, for sure.
On the other hand, as many in the media reported on Sen. Franken, they also attempted to minimize the damage to him even despite losing their tiny hive minds over Roy Moore.
MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt, for instance, refused to even accept the photographic evidence of Franken’s abuse calling it merely a “mock grabbing.”
Others followed suit, Daily Caller reported:
Carl Huse of The New York Times suggested that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is motivated by politics in his call for the Ethics Committee to look into Franken’s behavior, stating, “he wants everyone to feel the pain here.”
“[Franken’s] not popular among Republican members of the Senate,” Huse said on CNN.
“The nature of the allegations is certainly different…so I think they’re different, but politically you can see how this all becomes one thing now,” Margaret Talev, senior White House correspondent for Bloomberg, also stated on CNN.
Daily Caller had a long list of others minimizing the Franken story, but you get the picture.
There is also an important point to make as we wrap this up. Notice that all these stories detail incidents that are years and in other cases many decades old? In truth, the media has known about these stories for a long, long time and never once bothered to report on them until Farrow’s story on Weinstein finally broke.
Notice that the media picked up on the accusations against Moore the instant they were made. And yet, it was many decades before the media finally deigned to report on the accusations against all these liberals currently in the news.
In other words, the liberal media have been covering up decades of abuse that they all knew was going on solely because it was liberals engaged in the abuse. It is a double standard of very long standing, and you can bet that when this spate of abuse stories passes and the media moves on to some other tale, they will go right back covering for their liberal pals.
