Mall Shooter Avoided Background Check by Stealing Gun

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as well as many other anti-Second Amendment advocates claim that universal background checks for all gun purchases and even exchange of private ownership will stop mass shootings and gun violence. HA!

On September 23, 2016, 20-year-old Arcan Cetin went to the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington and opened fire on shoppers with a .22 caliber rifle. Cetin shot and killed one man and four women at the mall. After a 24-hour manhunt and being arrested by police, Cetin admitted to police that he indeed shot and killed the five victims.

So, no definite motive has been released for the shootings. Some speculated that since Cetin was born in Turkey and immigrated to the US when his mom married a US citizen, that it might be related to terrorism, but so far, authorities have dismissed this idea. Earlier reports states that Cetin was a permanent resident alien, but it has now been learned that he was a naturalized US citizen.

In a recent news release, it was revealed that the same day as the shooting, Cetin went into a gun store and asked about buying a high powered handgun. According to store clerk Aaron Wilson, Cetin seemed off from the moment he walked into the gun store and asked if they sold ‘45’s and stuff.’ Cetin asked if it was possible to avoid the background check but Wilson explained to him the answer was no. He told the media:

“He grew more agitated the more I told him there wasn’t a way around the background check. I already became convinced at this point that no matter what, I wasn’t willing to sell this man a gun.”

After being refused the sale of a large caliber handgun and not being able to avoid the background check, police believe that Cetin then stole a .22 caliber rifle and 25 shot magazine from a relative and then went to the mall and began shooting.

After hearing about the shooting, Wilson told the media:

“What I keep thinking is, I wish there would have been something he would have done that I could have acted on. There wasn’t. I have gone over it in my mind enough to know there’s nothing I could have done.”

This shooting is an example of how background checks and other anti-Second Amendment laws don’t work. Have you ever heard of the old adage ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’? Cetin had the will to go to the mall and start shooting people and he found a way AROUND the gun laws to make it happen.

If someone is determined to commit an act of violence, no laws will stop them. They will find a way to carry out their insane acts whether it means using a gun, bomb, knife car, poison or other means. There have been recorded instances of people intentionally driving into a crowd to kill and hurt people, we’ve had mass stabbings and bombings and poisons have been used for centuries.

The Cascade Mall shooting is just another example of how gun laws wont’ stop the violence as claimed by Clinton ad Obama. They only hurt and make it harder for law abiding citizens to protect themselves, their loved ones and their homes.
