How can you have a majority party blocked from holding office and claim you’re defending democracy?
Why is a majority party blocked from the government? This has happened in Portugal and the reason they are being opposed is probably because they would have resisted this sort of transnational tyranny:
I’m not in favor of deficit spending, but Spain and Portugal are expected to submit to the authority of the E.U. even if voters disagree.
So now, according to Ambrose Evans-Pritchard of the Telegraph, Portugal has crossed “the Rubicon”—a reference to Julius Caesar’s move to destroy the Roman Republic and become Emperor.
Portugal has entered dangerous political waters. For the first time since the creation of Europe’s monetary union, a member state has taken the explicit step of forbidding eurosceptic parties from taking office on the grounds of national interest.
Anibal Cavaco Silva, Portugal’s constitutional president, has refused to appoint a Left-wing coalition government even though it secured an absolute majority in the Portuguese parliament and won a mandate to smash the austerity regime bequeathed by the EU-IMF Troika.
He deemed it too risky to let the Left Bloc or the Communists come close to power, insisting that conservatives should soldier on as a minority in order to satisfy Brussels and appease foreign financial markets.
I’m not in favor of Leftists and Communists, but defying voters in order to submit to the Eurocrats is criminal behavior.
Pritchard quotes the President of Portugal:
After we carried out an onerous programme of financial assistance, entailing heavy sacrifices, it is my duty, within my constitutional powers, to do everything possible to prevent false signals being sent to financial institutions, investors and markets.
What would you think of Barack Obama declaring a national emergency to cancel the election and prevent a Trump Presidency on the grounds that he must “do everything possible to prevent false signals being sent to financial institutions, investors and markets”?
Yet we hear virtually nothing in the media about the radical move to preserve the E.U.
On the other hand, we do see a similar arrogant changing of the rules being attempted to prevent Donald Trump from getting the nomination, even though it would guarantee that Hillary Clinton becomes President.
