The recent reveal of Nike’s latest ad campaign, based around the “activism” of Colin Kaepernick somehow being relevant to sports and sneakers, is failing miserably.
Around the internet, Americans roundly lambasted the sneaker giant for both their corporate greed via the use of sweat shops, all the way to their marketing department’s savvy use of controversy as an advertising tool. We The People are growing smarter than Nike takes us for, and that means bad news for their ill-conceived business practices.
Now, as Americans look for an alternative to the publicity-stunting brand, sneaker makers New Balance seem to be filling the void nicely…at least according to one prominent republican from Maine.
Maine’s Republican Second District Rep. Bruce Poliquin urged his constituents to show support for the Maine-made New Balance shoes, The Hill reported.
“With Nike hiring Colin Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers famed kneeling quarterback, who protest during our national anthem, there has never been a better time to show off your Maine-Made New Balance shoes,” Poliquin said on Facebook.
“There are hundreds of your fellow Mainers who make these shoes that no doubt agree,” Poliquin added.
The New Balance push has been going on for days over around the internet as well, with memes and posts galore making it to Twitter.

Proud to say that I’ve been faithful New Balance running shoe customer since the 1980’s. I’ve never even tried another brand. They make a great shoe and are a great company. https://t.co/az8VxJ3Nao
