As with any previous gun-centric tragedy within our nation, Stephen Paddock’s Las Vegas massacre has reinvigorated a great debate.
The liberal left has long been at war with the 2nd Amendment – one of the most important rights of Americans throughout time. Without our right to bear arms, there is virtually no way for the U.S. to guarantee that any other piece of liberty that was granted to us by the Founding Fathers. Yet, in the wake of any act of violence involving a firearm, delusional democrats will slither out from their lairs in order to spout their tired and repetitive schtick ad nauseam.
In the case of the horrific tragedy that took place in Las Vegas over the weekend, the left has taken aim, (no pun intended), on “assault” rifles once again, given the aesthetic appearance of Paddock’s armory and the rampant liberal misconceptions regarding what constitutes such a weapon.
More specifically, the left has now concerned themselves with the complexities of a firearm device known as a “bump stock”, which allows certain models to fire much more rapidly than others. While the firearm is still technically semi-automatic, and ostensibly legal, the left has turned to vilifying the use of bump stocks and, on more than one occasion, has blamed their existence and legality on their political enemies.
Spoiler alert: You can thank the Obama administration for bump stocks.
“On June 7, 2010 — about a year and a half into the Barack Obama administration — the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives issued an opinion letter, giving the go-ahead to an after-market accessory that allows the user to ‘bump fire’ a semi-automatic rifle.
“A company called Slide Fire had earlier sent its patented replacement shoulder stock to ATF’s Firearms Technology Branch, asking for an evaluation of the device.
“The ATF, in reply, wrote: ‘Your letter advises that the stock (referenced in this reply as a “bump stock”) is intended to assist persons whose hands have limited mobility to “bump fire” an AR-15 type rifle.’
“The device replaces the factory stock and grip. The replacement stock moves back and forth with the gun’s recoil, allowing it to fire rapidly and continuously as the trigger repeatedly is bumped into the shooter’s finger. A switch allows the user to select semi-automatic fire (one shot for each trigger pull) or the more rapid ‘bump fire.’
“According to the ATF’s June 2010 letter: ‘The stock has no automatically functioning mechanical parts or springs and performs no automatic mechanical function when installed. In order to use the device, the shooter must apply constant forward pressure with the non-shooting hands and constant rearward pressure with the shooting hand. Accordingly, we find that the “bump stock” is a firearm part and is not regulated as a firearm under the Gun Control Act or the National Firearms Act.’”
Once again, in their rush to judgement, the left has displayed their lack of education and understanding in the realm of American firearms.
As such ignorance tends to be pervasive among the radical left and their cohorts, it is essential that we maintain a pro-2nd Amendment contingent in our national government for the simple reason that the liberals and their mainstream media lap dogs are employing every tactic in their arsenal to vilify firearms in the wake of this heinous and evil crime. We mustn’t let our snap judgements and knee jerk reactions dictate how we govern our great nation.
