There was once a time in U.S. history where a perfect storm of the First Amendment and American work ethic combine to create serious, hard-hitting journalism.
Those days are long, long gone.
In the past, our all-important Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press were virtues of American life, meant to behold and cherish. We used these powers for good, hoping to expose the evil inherent in power and those who seek dominion and wealth above all else. We were the most incredible nation of exposers and whistleblowers, always looking to take down the corrupt and crooked, restoring not only faith in the American Dream, but keeping the very essence of that optimism alive.
Now, however, we are being forced by the mainstream, entertainment-reliant media to argue over whether or not a photo of a pecan pie was a stock image, or actually baked by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
“Press secretary Sarah Sanders is standing by her pie after White House reporter April Ryan slammed her for a picturesque snapshot of a chocolate pecan pie she said she baked for Thanksgiving.
“Sanders tweeted: ‘I don’t cook much these days, but managed this Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving at the family farm!’
“The tweet contained a photo of Thanksgiving dessert with a white background. However, Ryan, a White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks and other Twitter users, believed the snap of the pie was a stock photo.
“Following her tweet, many social media users came to Ryan’s defense and demanded the pie be shown in a different setting, proving it was the real deal. The hashtag piegate started circulating.
“Ryan tweeted Friday: ‘I am not trying to be funny but folks are already saying #piegate and #fakepie. Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it. I am getting the biggest laugh out of this. I am thankful for this laugh on Black Friday!’”
Now, coming from a journalist who is quite savvy in the world of stock photos, this might be one of the least professional pictures of a pie that we’ve ever seen, and likely would be either buried by the search algorithm of any stock photo site, or rejected altogether.
Of course, on top of that, my crack team over here at Constitution.com, (just me, actually), spent 35 whole seconds doing a reverse image search on Google for photos of this pie. The results showed that this photo was unique to Sanders’ Twitter account.
And, thusly, I the world is once again wasting their time being obligated to debunk phony democratic claims that have no real purpose other than to annoy and “resist” the republican party.
