Univision anchor and Jorge Ramos has long claimed that the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States should be permitted to stay despite the indisputable fact that they are here in defiance of U.S. laws.
On Friday, Ramos was a guest on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” which had a guest host in Chris Wallace.
On some issues, the the two were in agreement. When Wallace mentioned, for example, that “roughly 820,000 of the people in this country illegally are convicted criminals,” Ramos said he had no problem finding and deporting them.
But when the subject turned to those who commit the crime of obtaining a false social security card or other official form of identification, Ramos admitted that it’s a crime but then tried to justify it by positing that they are “here to benefit our lives.”
At 4:24 in the video of the exchange below, he maintains:
They are here because of us. They are coming here, again, not because they want to go to Disneyland or because they want to kill Americans. They are here to benefit our lives. I mean, they’re here to — millions of Americans benefit from their work. [Emphasis added]
The idea was so ludicrous that at some points, he tripped over his own specious argument:
It is not simply that they come here and they just wanted to come here and make money. Yeah, I mean, they want to do that. They want to better their lives. But also they are here to help us.
So we are partly responsible for that and I think we are partly responsible for finding a solution.
