America is currently undergoing a crisis of freedom, as the radical left lays claim to a revisionary outlook for the First Amendment.
Across the nation, a number of historical monuments and memorials are being toppled, often illegally, by those who believe that they are protecting the emotional well-being of other Americans. In reality, a great many instances of this historical and societal revisionism are nothing more than opportunities for the malfeasant millennials involved to gain theoretical internet points for their “good deeds” in social justice circles.
Not only have a number of historical statues been targeted by this unethical and ill-advised censorship of our past, but the symbols of our nation’s diversity are also failing to be protected. Just this week in Oregon a courthouse was forced to remove a pro-police image from one of the employee break rooms – a move that incensed a number of Oregonians who vehemently support the brave men and women of the police force.
Now, parents of the student body at an Alabama high school are illustrating the absurd logic of the radical left by employing the very same tactics against one of the most powerful symbols of the LGBT community; the rainbow flag.
“Parents at an Alabama high school have reportedly started an online petition asking for the removal of an LGBT Pride rainbow flag that is displayed outside a teacher’s classroom.
“The argument is that the flag at Auburn High School ‘creates a hostile and provocative learning environment for students not comfortable to openly supporting LGBTQ+ community in a public school where students come from diverse political and religious backgrounds.’
“The petition, which has 810 signatures, reportedly reads, ‘Consider the uproar and chaos that would ensue were a teacher to hang for example a Confederate, Christian or Heterosexual Flag in their classroom.’ The Observer pointed out that it is unclear what ‘Heterosexual flag’ is referring to.”
While the move certainly feels a bit disingenuous, these parents are likely attempting to make an intensely profound point about acceptance, offense, and the First Amendment.
The radical left is only attempting to censor symbols and monuments that they themselves don’t agree with, while continuing to promote images and symbols that would certainly be offensive to their political enemies. The hypocrisy is astounding on its own, but when coupled with the First Amendment’s very plain objective, the radical left has outed themselves as downright treasonous.
