The tension between the United States and the nation of Iran has been mounting for some time, after Donald Trump kept him long-held promise to invalidate the so-called “nuclear deal” between the two nations.
The “deal”, which was hardly a deal at all, was instituted by former President Barack Obama during his sting as Commander in Chief of the United States. Well, at least in title. He acted far more like U.S. Ambassador to Globalism than he acted like President. But that’s a story for another time.
Obama’s deal with Iran provided very few of the oversights necessary to ensure that the Islamic regime in Tehran wasn’t also delving into the manufacture of nuclear weapons – something explicitly forbidden in the unenforceable deal. With Trump’s virtual repeal of the entire conundrum now in motion, Iran has grown quite bold and boisterous. This week, they even tacitly admitted that they could have stopped, or at least hampered, the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States, but chose instead to assist Al Qaeda.
Mohammad-Javad Larijani, an international affairs assistant in the Iran’s judiciary, disclosed in Farsi-language remarks broadcast on Iran’s state-controlled television that Iranian intelligence officials secretly helped provide the al Qaeda attackers with passage and gave them refuge in the Islamic Republic, according to an English translation published by Al Arabiya.
“Our government agreed not to stamp the passports of some of them because they were on transit flights for two hours, and they were resuming their flights without having their passports stamped. However their movements were under the complete supervision of the Iranian intelligence,” Larijani was quoted as saying.
The remarks represent the first time senior Iranian officials have publicly admitted to aiding al Qaeda and playing a direct role in facilitating the 9/11 attacks.
This revelation wasn’t exactly a stunner, with the U.S. having felt all along that Iran likely assisted, at least in some small way.
This is, of course, yet another reason why We The People were extremely weary of Barack Obama’s insistence on trusting Iran with enriched uranium and nuclear technology. I suppose we’ll just have to send his “I Told You So” bouquet to Netflix.
