Hillary Clinton certainly knows a thing or two about political chicanery, but even her most ardent and mindless supporters were cringing this week.
Clinton, who suffered an embarrassingly thorough defeat at the hands of Donald Trump during the 2016 election, has spent the better part of the last year peddling excuses for her loss. She has blamed nearly everyone for the elections results, including her campaign manager, the DNC, the Russians, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and more. Frankly, it is beginning to look more than a little bit pathetic, and has driven democratic support into the basement over the course of the last year.
Now that Clinton has been linked to a bizarre, hoaxed Russian “dossier” that purports to have salacious dirt on the President stemming from fictional encounters with Muscovite prostitutes, the former Secretary of State has been forced to acknowledge her “win at all costs” nonsense.
When it comes to funding this immoral and unethical smear, however, Clinton has no apologies, and actually defended the action on The Daily Show.
“‘Speaking about the dossier, Clinton said: “It was research that started by a Republican donor during the primary, and then when Trump got the nomination for the Republican Party, the people doing it came to my campaign lawyer [Marc Elias] and said, “would you like us to continue it??”‘“’He said yes. He’s an experienced lawyer, he knows what the law is, he knows what opposition research is.’
“’From my perspective, it didn’t come out before the election, as we all know, and what also didn’t come out, which I think is an even bigger problem… is that the American people didn’t even know that the FBI was investigating the Trump campaign because of connections with Russia starting in the summer of 2016.'”
Of course, Clinton’s crude examination of her own morality is no substitute for an actual glimpse into the former First Lady’s damaged psyche, and her circular logic here is astounding.
By Clinton’s line of thinking, there was no question of ethics whatsoever, only of legality…a terrifying proposition for someone who at one point believed that she could lead our nation. This obsession with culpability isn’t all too surprising, however, as the former candidate and democratic diva has long been operating on the fringes of political law.
