When God Says Enough

There is an awesome evangelist named Bucky Kennedy. I went to hear him speak and the subject was “When God says “Enough.” Now, I am not going to sit here and type out his sermon and actually I couldn’t if I wanted to. However, what I am going to do is tell you about where that sermon has led me.

There is one hard and fast rule I have: I do NOT pay bail money for ANYBODY. There really is no instance I which I can see myself ever breaking that rule. In the Garden of Eden God had one rule: Do NOT eat of that ONE tree. But of course we all know how that ended. Well, God said “enough” and booted Adam and Eve’s behinds right out. He also made sure they weren’t getting back in. The difference between God and me in this instance is he kicks you out and I let you stay in.

Fast forward and God sits back and sees what the “grandchildren” will do and be like. Well, instead of being repentant and doing what was good and right, they were even bigger boneheads than the residents of Eden… except one. That one was Noah. He did what God told him to do. By obeying he and his family were saved when the entire earth was flooded.

I can go on and on about all of the times when God has had enough and punishment surely follows.  But what I am going to attempt to do is show you that it may not always be the huge thump on the head we clearly need, but that God simply lets us live with the result of our sin and the misuse of His gifts.

God gave us marriage. We did not use that gift wisely. The result in America is that half of  marriages end in divorce. Divorce is a plague make no mistake about that. Another result has been a total disregard for the sanctity of marriage resulting in Gay Unions.

If God punished us the way we deserve every man who had premarital sex, an adulterous affair or committed any other sexual sin would immediately have his offending member fall off his body. Give Matthew 18:9 a good read. What would you need to remove to be kept out of the fire?
