Given the evidence available to us as a nation, I would venture to say a fair assessment of former Vice President Joe Biden is he’s on weird dude.
He was often portrayed, and rightfully so, as the cantankerous, but bumbling sidekick to the smoother, more hip Barack Obama. Toward the end of the Obama presidency, the two even seemed to play up their “bromance” a bit, in order to exude whatever feel-good vibes the disastrous presidency had left in it.
No matter how well these two played the part of sitcom buddies, one couldn’t help but think that Joe wasn’t always present. At one point, he was considered the King of The Gaffe in Washington D.C. According to the Media Research Center, even a disastrous Paul Ryan speech from 2012 can’t dethrone Biden from the Kingdom of Kooky.
“Within minutes of Paul Ryan concluding his convention speech in Tampa, the media attacks were launched. Why, the man is loose with the facts! He only spews vitriol and nonsense!
“Conservatives simply cannot believe that an able, cogent public servant like Paul Ryan can be so quickly demonized as a gaffe-prone liar in media circles. But Joe Biden can put Dan Quayle to shame in making mindless statements. He is a walking embarrassment to Barack Obama, to the point where there was open speculation about replacing him on the ticket. While Ryan is trashed for his speeches, Biden is a gaffe-a-minute disaster. But the media consistently ignore the stupid things that he says. Even when most of America sees Biden as a punch line, the press openly pretends he’s a serious presidential contender in 2016. “
And then, on top of all that, Joe Biden is actually really creepy.
On more than a few occasions, Biden has been caught inappropriately touching women, often prolonging the contact to incredibly uncomfortable lengths. Worse yet is his behavior around female Secret Service agents.
“‘In a 2014 book titled ‘The First Family Detail’ by best selling author Robert Kessler, the allegation is made that Biden offends female Secret Service agents by getting naked in front of them.
“‘Agents say that, whether at the vice president’s residence or at his home in Delaware, Biden has a habit of swimming in his pool nude,’ Mr. Kessler writes, according to the Daily Mail. ‘Female Secret Service agents find that offensive.’
“Jon Gabriel, who is the editor-in-chief of Ricochet, appeared to substantiate the claims made by the female Secret Service agents over Twitter recently. Gabriel also suggested that Biden’s behavior was not just limited to the swimming pool but that he walked around his house like that.”
There also seems to be a disconnect between what Biden remembers about growing up in America, and what he thinks being a kid in the 1950’s was like. This has led Biden to insinuate, on more than one occasion, that he’d like to beat up President Donald J. Trump.
Today, Biden reiterated that idea.
“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it,'” Biden said. “They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said ‘no.’ I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.'”
“I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms my whole life,” Biden continued. “I’m a pretty damn good athlete. Any guy that talked that way was usually the fattest, ugliest S.O.B. in the room.”
While we expect shock artists such as Kathy Griffin and Snoop Dogg to make references to harming the President in order to stay “edgy” and relevant, having a former Vice President sink to that level is just sad.
