Free speech is dead, or at least dying, thanks to a prolonged attack carried out by the nation’s progressive posses and liberal lunatics.
America the nation was founded on the concept of distilled freedom and ultimate liberty. That’s precisely why the Founding Fathers declared that we were entitled to the freedom to pursue happiness. You see, America wasn’t meant to be every other country. America was meant to be the country by which all future societies would be judged.
And, having just begun their separation from the overlording of the British colonial monarchy, there were certain aspects of this liberty that these New Americans were never, ever going to stifle. The most important of which, at least according to Constitution itself, is the concept of Free Speech.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Even now, with our modern language and semantic gymnastics, this statement is a doozy. It holds weight, even against the absurdity of the history that succeeded it.
It protects everything. It protects the lies as well as the absolute truth, (that coincidentally cannot exist without the lies). It protects the greats protestors, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and his “I have a dream” speech, as well as the great pilferers such as Bill Clinton, who will be forever famous for asking to have the word “is” defined under oath.
The First Amendment is meant to be absolute, and was installed by men who experienced firsthand what happens when you aren’t allowed to speak your mind.
This is a bit of historical perspective that we cannot pretend to know. We have, for all intents and purposes, lived a fairly healthy life here in America for the last 70 years or so. We cannot possibly pretend to understand what life is like without the First Amendment, thanks to the men who knew understood its import without even possessing it themselves.
Well, to be honest, we may get a taste of the fascism behind the liberal war on Free Speech…if we’re not careful.
Take the University of California at Berkeley for instance. The school has been a hotbed of controversy in recent years after violent, neo-Fascist students began a campaign of destruction in order to force the school to cancel an appearance by gay conservative firebrand Milo Yiannopolous in February of 2017.
“Protests that erupted at UC Berkeley ahead of a planned Wednesday appearance by right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos caused $100,000 worth of damage to the campus, the school said Thursday.
“The university blamed ‘150 masked agitators’ for the unrest, saying they had come to campus to disturb an otherwise peaceful protest.“Two Berkeley College Republican ‘were attacked while conducting an interview’ on the campus on Thursday, UC Berkeley also said in a prepared statement. The attackers, who were not affiliated with the university, were taken into custody by UC Berkeley police.
“Administrators decided to cancel the Wednesday event about two hours before the Breitbart editor’s speech. UC Berkeley said it removed him from campus ‘amid the violence and destruction of property and out of concern for public safety.'”
“Conservative commentator Ann Coulter said Wednesday that her planned speech at the University of California at Berkeley this week was canceled amid mounting concerns about potentially violent protests.
“Coulter said in an email that the Young America’s Foundation canceled her appearance scheduled for Thursday, ordering her not to go to the Berkeley campus. The university realized that the group ‘wasn’t serious and dropped ongoing negotiations over a room,’ she wrote. ‘Everyone who should be for free speech has turned tail and run.’
“The university sent a message to the campus community Wednesday in the midst of uncertainty over whether, or when, Coulter might come to campus. After the university originally canceled her speech for Thursday and instead invited her to speak there next week, Coulter had vowed to speak anyway; with the university not offering a venue, campus Republican groups had been discussing her possibly appearing on a public plaza, where security would have been challenging.”
Shapiro’s event was allowed to actually take place, but not before being neutered in scope by school officials who feigned safety concerns.
“Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro delivered his speech at the UC Berkeley campus under extraordinary security that required attendees to pass through metal detectors and police barricades that held back hundreds of protesters.
“The event at Zellerbach Hall appeared to do what UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ has said she hoped for when she declared a free speech year on campus: provide an open exchange of ideas. Shapiro’s speech included a question-and-answer session in which audience members respectfully challenged his opinions.
“Security cost the university an estimated $600,000. Police from all nine Bay Area counties were brought in to keep order on and off campus and to secure Zellerbach and the surrounding area, which was off-limits to anyone without a ticket to the event.”
This sort of nonsense has continued well into 2018 as well, and has expanded into what should be an “off limits” space for social justice warriors: Standup comedy.
Standup comedy is a necessary shock for America. Men like Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and others have long worked to expose corruption in politics and society through their razor sharp wit. Sure, the controversy isn’t hurting their ticket sales either, but that fact truly just makes it a win-win for Free Speech and for capitalism.
That’s why when comedians do find themselves in the crosshairs of the social justice junket, it is important that America stands by the artist and not the pitchfork-wielding crowds.
Enter Hannibal Buress: A comedian that made a huge splash by instigating the Bill Cosby controversy.
“Most comedy nerds can tell you that Hannibal Buress is one of the most respected young comics performing right now. He’s co-starred on Comedy Central’s ‘Broad City’, Adult Swim’s ‘The Eric Andre Show’ and released two stand-up albums.
“But those unfamiliar with the performer’s work now know him as the man who called Bill Cosby a rapist on stage.
“Last month in Philadelphia, Buress performed a two-minute joke about the ‘Cosby Show’ star.
“‘Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches,’ Buress said. ‘I’ve done this bit on stage and people think I’m making it up…. when you leave here, Google “Bill Cosby rape.” That sh** has more results than “Hannibal Buress.”‘”
Remember, this was before the Cosby star was finally and thankfully entangled in a legal battle that should bring at least some closure to the Jello spokesman’s dozens of victims.
Buress is in the headlines again, this time for tackling another sensitive subject: The widespread pedophilia within the Catholic Church.
“Comedian Hannibal Buress didn’t get too far into his act at a Catholic university in Chicago on Saturday night, before the school cut his mic after he made a joke about priests molesting children.
“The event, known as Colossus, a two-night affair hosted by Loyola University Chicago, features a musical performance on one evening and a comedian on the other.
“Buress, began his act by reading an email his says the university sent him regarding restrictions on his comedic content. Specifically, the email addressed content from rape to sexual assault, sexual orientation, race, and the use of foul language.
“Shortly after that, Buress brought up child molestation. The university then cut the power to his microphone.
“The crowd booed when Buress’ mic got cut, but then quieted down again as Buress attempted to perform his act ‘unplugged.’ However, the school then raised the volume of the background music, until Buress eventually left the stage.”
Buress did get the last laugh however, returning to the stage after a 15 minute hiatus, and then projecting the restrictive email about him while explaining the situation to the Loyola students.
If Loyola believes that the epidemic of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church will go away if we just stop talking about it, they likely have another thing coming.
This systemic abuse, as evidenced throughout history, has truly reached its time of reckoning. The Church likely understands this, and has no problem subverting the American right to free speech in order to buy themselves a few more precious decades in which to scoop up that tax-free collection plate cash.
How on earth do we save American children from these monstrous predators if not by spreading the truth? The simple answer is that we won’t solve the problem, and that’s precisely what the Catholic Church is literally banking on.
