“If we’re capitalists, let’s stop voting for Democratic socialists. If we’re Christians, let’s stop voting for Democratic atheists.” — Burgess Owens

In the late 70s to early 80s, Burgess Owens was competing in the NFL and not thinking much about his possible future in American politics. However, over the years as he’s shifted from the Democrat plantation to the free market of Republican ideas, Owens has found himself getting more and more involved on the political scene. He even wrote a book about what he’s learned over the years called Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies, and Wimps. So, you should have a pretty clear understanding of where Owens stands on the political spectrum…

On Saturday evening, Owens was invited to speak on Fox News about GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s recent trip to Detroit and his attempt to reach out to the African-American community. Owens took the opportunity to praise Donald Trump for his willingness to take his message to the people who stand most solidly against him, but he also took the time to entreat America’s black community to listen to what Trump and the GOP had to say.

“It’s so refreshing to finally have someone talking about this after 8 years of a black president who didn’t. Black misery is at an all-time high and it’s under Democratic policies.

We need to, as a race, start looking at our principles and values first. If we’re capitalists, let’s stop voting for Democratic socialists. If we’re Christians, let’s stop voting for Democratic atheists. If we believe that all kids should have an education no matter how poor they are, we cannot vote for the Democratic party, including Barack Obama, who believes we should keep our kids segregated in these poor bad schools.

Owens’ message is vitally important, as today’s racial divide seems as sharp and painful as any time in recent memory. Most of the polling data actually shows that the racial divide in America is worse today than it was 8 years ago, and the economic data shows that the African-American community is worse off today than it was 8 years ago. While African-American voters may not trust the GOP, one thing is certain — the policies and politics from the Democrat Party that they’ve supported for the last 30+ years have only worsened the conditions for their community. The GOP’s message to the black community of a “rising tide lifting all boats” may not sound as direct or helpful as the Democrats welfare state… but at the end of the day, it’s the GOP’s plans that hold the best opportunity for long term success. Mr. Owens is right.

I am the supreme law of the United States. Originally comprising seven articles, I delineate the national frame of government. My first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Articles Four, Five and Six entrench concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments and of the states in relationship to the federal government. Article Seven establishes the procedure subsequently used by the thirteen States to ratify it. I am regarded as the oldest written and codified constitution in force of the world.
