For the first time in months, it looks as though Special Counsel Robert Mueller has his bobber dancing about the surface of the conspiracy lake thanks to Michael Flynn.
During the tumultuous 2016 election, the democrats could see the writing on the wall as Hillary Clinton’s flaws came fully into focus in front of the entire nation. In order to mitigate the risk of Donald Trump becoming President, the left attempted to convince the American people of a bizarre conspiracy theory – namely, that Trump was somehow connected to the Kremlin, and that the Russian government was working covertly to ensure his electoral victory.
Trump obviously won the election, and that only emboldened the radical left’s reliance on the accusation. The entire set of shenanigans came full circle when former FBI Director Robert Mueller opened and investigation into the claims earlier this year.
Now, as Mueller’s fishing expedition rambles on into multiple months, it looks as though the Special Counsel may finally have something to show for it.
But it’s not nearly as powerful a result as the left is leading us to believe.
“The Special Counsel announced Friday morning a plea hearing for former National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn later in the day.
“Flynn, according to court documents released by the special counsel, is charged with lying to the FBI.“’On or about January 24, 2017, defendant MICHAEL T. FLYNN did willfully and knowingly make materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations in a matter within the jurisdiction of the executive branch of the Government of the United States.'”
Sure, that sounds ominous, but we must remember that all things involving the White House and passing through the mainstream media come with an enormous slant to examine. The reality of the situation is much more of a nothing-burger.
“The potential sentence is zero to five years’ imprisonment. Assuming Flynn cooperates fully with Mueller’s investigators, there will be little, if any, jail time.
“[Flynn] is being permitted to plead guilty to a mere process crime. A breaking report from ABC News indicates that Flynn is prepared to testify that Trump directed him to make contact with the Russians — initially to lay the groundwork for mutual efforts against ISIS in Syria. That, however, is exactly the sort of thing the incoming national-security adviser is supposed to do in a transition phase between administrations. If it were part of the basis for a ‘collusion’ case arising out of Russia’s election meddling, then Flynn would not be pleading guilty to a process crime — he’d be pleading guilty to an espionage conspiracy.”
Once again, we have the left salivating over a headline that hasn’t yet been truly written.
We shall see what truly comes of the rest of Mueller’s probe, and if Michael Flynn will have any further non-bombshells to drop on us. Until then, I suggest buckling up and getting the popcorn ready for the Presidential tweet storm on the horizon.
