There is one very important fact that Americans tend to forget about CNN and other mainstream, 24-hour news networks: Their only objective is to sell commercial advertising.
It’s a very important distinction to be made, yet, as we groom future generations for adulthood, we are continuing to perpetuate the stereotypical view of CNN and the others -namely, that they are sources of news.
Sure, CNN, Fox, and a litany of similarly-scheduled programming will provide you with information as to what is happening in the world today, but they are doing so simply to entice you into watching commercials. The pacing and delivery of your news will come at planned and tested intervals, maintaining a rhythmic enthusiasm meant to swell just before sending you two or three minutes of paid advertisements. It’s simple trickery, and it is all hinged upon how entertaining the network can be. This makes it easy to see how the entire network can be easily coerced or corrupted to suit the agenda of both their owners and their advertisers.
So when CNN got into a war of words with the President of the United States, arguably one of the most powerful men in the world, you knew that it wouldn’t bode well for the fathers of Fake News. When Sean Spicer decided to hold “no-video” White House press briefings, CNN threw a temper tantrum.
“CNN reporter Jim Acosta repeatedly and heatedly asked Press Secretary Sean Spicer why the cameras were not allowed to be on during Monday’s White House press briefing.
“Spicer appeared to call on another reporter but Acosta cut in to ask a question.
“‘There’s no camera on, Jim,’ Spicer said, seeming to take a shot at Acosta for showing off on television.
“‘Maybe we should turn the cameras on, Sean,’ Acosta said. ‘Why don’t we turn the cameras on? Why don’t we turn the cameras on?’“Spicer tried to call on the other reporter while Acosta kept going.
“‘Why not turn the cameras on, Sean? They’re in the room. The lights are on,’ Acosta said.
“Acosta and Spicer have had several on-air spats during White House briefings. Acosta last week blasted Spicer as ‘kind of useless’ for not giving answers to questions and for doing briefings off the air.”
CNN, it seems, is much more concerned about gathering content for their own, self-righteous trophy case than they are about reporting the news.
Acosta’s remarks are indicative of a media gone wild. In the age of Trump, where Americans are being treated to some unconventional political maneuvers, every so-called “journalist” out there is on edge, expecting something of great magnitude to occur at any time. That has, in turn, created a feeding frenzy of sort within the media, with reporters such as Acosta very much working to bolster their own reputation instead of simply giving his viewers the news.
