Syrian Refugee Situation Puts This European Country in Crisis Mode

Tensions have been building over the last several months, as many in the EU have begun to partially or wholly close their borders. This has placed states such as Greece in a difficult situation. They have not the resources or the desire to shut off the flow of Islamic migrants into their country.

With their Northern neighbors building fences to stop the travel of migrants through their lands, Greece is faced with the problem of housing, feeding, and providing medical care for those now trapped inside their border. The resulting log jam has created a volatile situation, already erupting in violence.

Middle Eastern migrants have used a home-made battering ram in an attempt to force their way into Macedonia from Greece today. They also rioted and threw rocks at police, who retaliated with tear gas.
The migrants managed to destroy a gate on the border with the Medieval siege weapon, which they had fashioned from steel poles. It is not clear how many managed to get through the broken gate.

These people, mostly men, were so desperate to travel through
Macedonia that they were willing to face men in riot gear. Macedonia has said that it will not allow any migrants except for Syrian and Iraqi to enter.

And with 6500 migrants on the Greek side of the Macedonian border, the Greek government has threatened political action if things do not return to normal.

Breitbart continues

Alexis Tsipras, the Greek Prime Minister, has threatened to block EU legislation, including David Cameron’s “reform deal”, unless other member states accept more migrants.

“We will not accept turning the country into a permanent warehouse of souls with Europe continuing to function as if nothing is happening”, he said last week, adding: “Greece will not agree to deals (in the EU) if a mandatory allocation of burdens and responsibilities among member countries is not secured.”

But as I reported, many of the Balkan countries have stated that they were not going to take any more migrants. And unfortunately for Greece, Macedonia is not a member of the EU, and such tactics will likely prove unsuccessful.

The video below shows the determination of these people.
