Did the Cruz-JFK Assassination Story Come from the DNC?

One of the more egregiously bad moments during the Republican presidential primary happened when Donald Trump himself began implying that Senator Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, may have played a role in the assassination of President Kennedy. At the time it was widely believed that Trump simply borrowed the story from his friends (and supporters) at the National Enquirer, who were peddling a similar story around that time. However, the recent leak of internal Democrat memos shows that the truth may actually be that someone at the Democrat National Committee fed the story to the Trump campaign.

On Friday WikiLeaks released nearly 20,000 emails from the accounts of Democratic National Committee officials, and one of those email chains had a very strange story from DNC communications director Luis Miranda wherein he wonders if Rafael Cruz was behind the JFK assassination.

Miranda’s comments were made May 3, ironically, while preparing a DNC press release bashing Trump for promoting the Oswald theory.

“While I will note that Cruz’s father was in fact a militant who fought the Batista regime (which Fidel Castro defeated),” Miranda says. “And it would not be unusual for him to be caught up in the ugly web of Cuban militants with questionable histories … I think this is a fun hit.”

Miranda cites a variety of examples of suspicious Cuban characters in the U.S. that Cruz could have been “caught up” with, such as Watergate burglars Virgilio Gonzales and Eugenio Martinez, plane bomber Luis Posada Carriles, and militants active during wars in Central America. Notably, Posada has been a figure in some Kennedy conspiracy theories, with theorists alleging he has knowledge of an anti-Kennedy plot and may have been in Dealey Plaza the day Kennedy was shot.

While Miranda’s email comments came after the National Enquirer story and Mr. Trump’s decision to speak openly about the conspiracy theory, his rather detailed explanation does seem to imply an in-depth knowledge of the reasons for the story’s existence. Could Miranda have been behind the story at the National Enquirer that was eventually used by the Trump campaign to attack Rafael Cruz?

Stranger things have happened in this campaign, and the recent DNC email leaks prove that the Democrats are capable of just about anything (as Bernie Sanders can attest to).

I am the supreme law of the United States. Originally comprising seven articles, I delineate the national frame of government. My first three articles entrench the doctrine of the separation of powers, whereby the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress; the executive, consisting of the President; and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. Articles Four, Five and Six entrench concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments and of the states in relationship to the federal government. Article Seven establishes the procedure subsequently used by the thirteen States to ratify it. I am regarded as the oldest written and codified constitution in force of the world.
