Discouraged Democrat Donors: Another Benefit of the Trump Victory

While Democrat donors far exceeded Trump donors, they were beaten and their money was wasted.

Democrat donors gave massive amounts of money to Hillary Clinton. I pointed out before the election that she was receiving and spending far more than Donald Trump was (here, here). Goldman Sachs even forbade employees from donating to the Trump campaign.

What did they get for their investment? Nothing!

All their spending did was magnify of weight of Trump’s victory. He defeated Hillary on a far smaller budget.

In retrospect, this was the best way that Donald Trump could win. Suddenly rich Democrat donors associate the party with a crushing waste of money.

The Hill recently reported,

Democratic donors stung by Hillary Clinton’s upset loss in the presidential race feel like they just set their money on fire.

The sore feelings are a huge problem for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), which is trying to rebuild its image and reinvigorate a defeated party in time for challenging midterm elections in 2018.

It’s also a worry for top liberal activists as they prepare for war with President-elect Donald Trump and a GOP Congress that is hell-bent on rolling back President Obama’s accomplishments.

Many Democratic donors still feel burned by the party’s 2016 election losses and what they see as dysfunction in the DNC, which will elect a new leader in February.

Yes. Selecting an anti-Israel Islamist progressive means the DNC wants to double down on the reasons that they lost this election.

Adding insult to the injury: The names of many donors were released in the WikiLeaks hack of Democratic emails, believed to have come at the hands of Russian intelligence. It was a mortifying development that has rattled some of the party’s big-money men and women.

The writer didn’t need to mention Russia and there’s no proof of Russian involvement. The Hill is hoping if they repeat the claim often enough everyone will believe it.

“They’re tired,” one DNC official told The Hill. “They’re upset about the election, and there was significant trauma surrounding the Russians. They’re upset and they’re tired.”

Democratic investors went in on Clinton to the tune of more than $550 million, believing she would dispatch Trump, deliver Democrats the Senate and help the party make inroads into the GOP’s House majority.

None of this happened! The Democrat donors might as well burned all the cash in a bonfire.

What is great about this is that it means the Left is going to have a hard time raising funds They are less powerful than they have been at the state and federal levels. That, by itself, would discourage giving. But they also spent and wasted over half a billion dollars when the Democrats seemed much more powerful, with Obama still popular and the media fully supporting Hillary Clinton. That must be very painful for them. They invested in Hillary and it was a bad investment. So we have every reason to expect that Democrats are not going to be able to raise the same amount of money in the future as they did in 2015 and 2016.
