There is no doubt in the American mind that the democrats will attempt to remove Donald Trump from office sometime during his first term.
They aren’t even being clever about it, having already twice attempted to introduce article of impeachment against the sitting President for reasons beyond the scope of political reality. Furthermore, there has been incessant, uncouth chatter about molesting the 25th Amendment in order to declare Donald Trump “unfit”, mentally, to hold the office. This nonsensical idea was only recently bolstered by the “loose” truth of Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, a liberal collection of anecdotes that Wolff himself didn’t bother to verify during his time in the West Wing.
Now, after the President has been accused of possibly using some less than eloquent language during a meeting behind closed doors in which only other adults were in the room, the democrats are looking to get their first taste of legislative success when it comes to Trump. This time, instead of grasping for the big guns, the left is going with a little pin prick to the side in the form of a censure.
“Two prominent House Democrats plan to introduce a censure resolution next week to ‘condemn’ President Donald Trump for what they said were his ‘racist’ remarks about wanting fewer immigrants from ‘shithole’ countries.
“Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), the Congressional Black Caucus Chair, and Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee, said on Friday that Trump’s ‘bigoted fearmongering is not acceptable and his remarks completely warrant total condemnation and censure from Congress.’ They added in a statement that they were ‘deeply disturbed and offended’ by Trump’s remarks.
“’The countries he called “shitholes” produce immigrants that are remarkable and make significant contributions to our country. A high percentage of those immigrants have college degrees and when they get here they create businesses and jobs,’ the House Democrats said. ‘These remarks have compelled us to prepare a resolution of censure with our colleagues next week, to condemn President Trump for his racist statements. This censure resolution is important because America is a beacon of hope. We have to show the world that this president does not represent the real feelings of most of the American people which is part of the reason why he lost the popular vote.’”
The funny thing about censure is that it will take days or weeks for the motion to take effect. Trump himself can render the entire debacle useless with 144 characters any time that he wants.
It is possible, however, that the left is using this censure move to create a perception of procedural success, given that every other attempt they’ve made to thwart Trump has proven unsuccessful. With a successful censure, the left can hang their hat on something just before the 2018 midterms reveal to them the fate at hand.
