When history looks back on the first months of Donald Trump’s presidency, they will be a President who achieved while taking constant, figurative sniper fire from the left.
The President has been ruthlessly and incessantly mocked for the entirety of his first year by an increasingly vitriolic left. Their so-called “resistance” aims to oppose Donald Trump at each and every turn, with no maneuver too minuscule, no move too minute to ignore. His daily decisions are under a much larger microscope than that of his predecessor, thanks, in no small part, to the mainstream media’s constant magnification of his time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Every single day we are bombarded with “news” coverage dissecting a hand gesture, a tweet, or a wholly imaginary hidden meaning in something that Donald Trump did.
Perhaps the most egregious piece of the “resistance” puzzle is not these constant, petty attacks on Donald Trump’s very being, but rather, a persistent and baseless allegation that the President is, himself, a double agent of the Kremlin who rose to the highest office in the land with the blessing and assistance of Vladimir Putin.
This farcical nonsense has been far too large a part of the media culture over the course of the last year, despite there being absolutely zero evidence linking Trump to Putin, or the Oval Office to the Kremlin.
Still, an investigation continues under the guidance of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a man with a tapestry of democratic support hanging above his head at all times. Mueller’s probe has already been reported to have gone off the rails, with the former FBI Director casting a net so wide that it could entangle just about anyone who has said Donald Trump’s name in the last two years.
Now, as calls for his ouster mount, Robert Mueller could be preparing to pull the ace up his sleeve by subpoenaing the President himself in this whole debacle.
“Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III has raised the likelihood with President Trump’s legal team that his office will seek an interview with the president, triggering a discussion among his attorneys about how to avoid a sit-down encounter or set limits on such a session, according to two people familiar with the talks.
“Mueller brought up the issue of interviewing Trump during a late December meeting with the president’s lawyers, John Dowd and Jay Sekulow. Mueller deputy James Quarles, who oversees the White House portion of the special counsel investigation, also attended.
“The special counsel’s team could interview Trump very soon on some limited portion of questions — possibly within the next several weeks, according to a person close to the president who was granted anonymity to describe internal conversations.
“’This is moving faster than anyone really realizes,’ the person said. Trump is comfortable participating in an interview and believes it would put to rest questions about whether his campaign coordinated with Russia in the 2016 election, the person added.”
This is not only a bizarre step in the far-too-lengthy investigation into an already debunked conspiracy theory, but will likely remove the President from his post at the helm of our American ship for days or hours, thus depriving the American people of a central figure on which to depend.
And to think; all of this pomp and circumstance being strutted about is nothing more than a little piece of that insane “resistance”, whose mission is to delegitimize a fairly elected President.
If a showdown were to occur, one thing is for certain: There will be fireworks worthy of watching between Mueller and Trump.
