A week after a disturbed teenager murdered 17 students in a Florida high school, we learn that the armed police officer who was supposed to be at the school to protect kids was too afraid to enter the school as the shooter performed his grisly work. Doesn’t this fact blow away the left’s claim that only cops should be allowed to have guns?
This week we have learned that during the February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Broward County Deputy Scot Peterson failed to enter the school when he heard gunfire erupt inside the building. Peterson, who was armed, “Never went in,” according to Broward Sheriff Scott Israel.
As ABC reported:
“These families lost their children, we lost coaches. I’ve been to the funerals. I’ve been to the homes where they’re sitting shiva. I’ve been to the vigils. It’s just, there are no words.”
The Sheriff said that Peterson was suspended almost immediately, but now we have learned that the cowardly officer has resigned.
Two other officers have also been suspended, ABC noted:
Two other BSO resource officers, Edward Eason and Guntis Treijs, have been placed on administrative duties pending further investigation. Both officers were involved in 23 calls for service at Cruz’s home and may not have followed protocol.
Indeed, the kid who murdered 17 of his fellow students was a well-known problem child.
As the Miami Herald reported:
Nikolas Cruz’s dangerous and disturbing behavior was flagged repeatedly to authorities, both local and federal, over a span of two years starting in February 2016. But no one stopped him before he killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Here’s a time line of incidents where Cruz was reported to law enforcement. Many of the incidents involve the threat of a school shooting.
The Herald went on to lay out the many times the authorities were involved in altercations with the killer. But despite all this, no one did a thing to stop Cruz from spiraling into a murderous frenzy that destroyed the lives of so many.
Then we get to CNN, Everytown for Gun Safety’s personal Leni Riefenstahl, and its constant circus parade of left-wing activists posing as Parkland high school students.
As Daly Wire’s Michael J. Knowles said, “Adults who prostitute traumatized teenagers to advance their political agenda should be ashamed of themselves, and those at CNN who do it should be fired.”
But whatever you think of the media’s response to this tragic crime, one thing is certain: The whole mess proves the lie to the left’s constant claim that we need to trust the government to keep us safe. It is a laughable proposition.
Now, remember, the left says that we can’t trust regular Americans with guns. They say only police officers should have guns. They also say that only the government can protest us in times of trial and tribulation.
And yet… and yet, Nikolas Cruz just showed us all that we can’t trust government to head off this sort of trouble. Cruz was brought to the attention of authorities so many times that it boggles the mind. Still, nothing was done about this troubled kid.
Next, we had an armed police officer right in the very school where this kid went on his rampage. But the cop — the guy that liberals say is the only one in this situation who should have been armed — turned into a coward and refused to intervene.
To me this looks like an utter failure for the left’s concept about how to keep us all safe.
What do you think?
