We are likely still weeks away from establishing a motive in the Las Vegas massacre of Sunday night, but several possibilities have already been discussed in the media.
Of course, the first thought that came to mind for many Americans was radical Islamic terrorism, thanks to the constant news coming in from Europe where ISIS and other caliphate organizations have created a near-constant hum of religious violence in the media.
Others believed that Paddock may have simply “snapped”. The multimillionaire and avid gambler may have received news about an impending illness or financial loss that set him off. Furthermore, his affection for gaming may have been the harbinger of a break from reality after a particularly heavy loss.
Not a single theory has been confirmed by investigators at this time, but that hasn’t stopped some high level intelligence officials from creating a profile and possible motive of the otherwise mundane Paddock.
“According to former U.S. Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Shaffer, Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock deliberately targeted a country music concert so he could kill Trump supporters.
“Shaffer told Fox News it was ‘beyond dispute’ that the shooting was a “deliberate act of terror” and that the motive was clear, pointing out that gunman Stephen Paddock ‘parallels in many ways’ James Hodgkinson, the left-wing terrorist who tried to massacre Republican lawmakers back in June.
“’After talking to a psychological professional and some other folks in law enforcement, there’s a lot of parallels there,’ said Shaffer.
“Shaffer, a CIA-trained intelligence operative, also asserted that the country music concert was a ‘politically selected target’ because the shooter knew ‘there was gonna be a lot of pro-gun folks there, Trump supporters at this concert.’
“’This was a legitimate target of political expression,’ said Shaffer, adding that ‘the left has now encouraged the use of violence as an extension and use of political speech.’”
This latest theory echoes what many in the free press have already been saying.
Later in the same interview, Shaffer drew more parallels between the shock value of Paddock’s rampage and instances of normalized violence on the left, specifically the ISIS-inspired faux beheading of President Donald Trump by CNN personality and former comedian Kathy Griffin. Griffin’s stunt was likely a call to arms for the aforementioned Jame Hodgkinson, who himself was a Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer seemingly hellbent on starting the liberals’ New Civil War.
It is possible that Paddock is simply picking up where Hodgkinson left off.
