Chief of Staff Kelly Makes Bold Remarks on Feud with Rep. Wilson

The democrats will be the death of Washington’s long-suffering eloquence once and for all, if legislators such as Rep. Frederica Wilson continue finding themselves in the spotlight.

Wilson, a democratic Representative from Florida, has proven herself time and again to be a grandstanding politician of the umpteenth degree.  Her flashy attire, almost always indulging a sequined or bedazzled cowboy hat, belies her role as the token “wacky” congresswomen from the Sunshine State, keeping alive the old tradition of having at least one wacky, ineffective carnival barker in congress.

To cement her position as the “weird one”, Wilson has been a vocal opponent of President Trump in some of the most dramatic ways possible, recently exploiting the grief of a Gold Star family to lambast the President and his allegedly callous handling of a conciliatory phone call to the bereaved.  This classless act by Wilson drew a strong rebuke from White House Chief of Staff General Kelly, who was recently asked if he would apologize for his stern statement.  General Kelly then made it very clear where he stood on the subject.

“In the debut of The Ingraham Angle Monday night, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told host Laura Ingraham that he would ‘never’ apologize to Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) over comments he made in their public feud.

“In an interview that touched on a range of subjects, including the indictment of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates, Ingraham asked the retired general about his dustup with Rep. Wilson. Wilson turned President Trump’s private condolence call to a Gold Star widow into a political battle when she accused Trump of being callous in his phrasing. Trump pushed back against the claim, as did Gen. Kelly, who had advised Trump about how to handle the difficult calls. In his defense of Trump, Kelly slammed ’empty barrel’ Wilson for grandstanding, as he said she had previously done regarding an FBI building named after two slain agents. Kelly said Wilson had boasted about securing funding for the building during a ceremony. Video and transcripts of her speech show that Wilson touted her role not in securing funding but in getting the building named for the agents (see transcript below). Wilson accused Kelly of outfight ‘lying’ about her, suggested that he was being ‘racist‘ for calling her an ’empty barrel,’ a term with no racial connotations, and demanded an apology.

“When Ingraham pressed Kelly on Monday about his claim that Wilson bragged about raising funds for the building, Kelly defended his statement and made clear that he would ‘never’ apologize to Wilson.

“‘Do you feel like you have something to apologize for?’ pressed Ingraham.

“‘No. Never. I’ll apologize if I need to. But for something like that, absolutely not. I stand by my comments,’ he said.”

The entire absurd episode stems from Wilson’s unusual behavior and the democrats’ overall lack of civility over the course of the last year.

This microcosm of bizarre behavior has been the norm for the liberal left in the age of President Trump, and General Kelly’s reaction is just what the doctor ordered in this case.  No longer can the conservative majority in America sit back and be bullied by these blatantly false allegations stemming from the politically liberal.  Wilson and her colleagues will certainly feign offense at the insinuation of wrongdoing, but history will likely out them as the bratty children that they are.
